Diabetics at Pizza Hut

Pizza is neither a great meal nor the worst for diabetes. All you need is some fact check and monitoring while ordering your pizza. Diabetics can opt for thin crust or skinny pizza at Pizza Hut and avoid the cheese topping to cut down on the excess fat and sodium. If you have diabetes, then ensure to check your portion size when you order a pizza. One or max. two slices are enough. You can also avoid meat if possible and go for wings as a meat option.

Foods to Avoid at Pizza Hut for Diabetics:

You must avoid Meat Lovers Pizza with Original Pan Crust as it contains over 1000mg sodium and will add 470 calories in your meal. You should also skip Super Supreme Pizza Large Original Pan Slice which is too high in sodium and fat. Chicken wings are often tempting but you must control and restrict yourself from ordering Traditional Honey BBQ Bone-in Wings as it can add up to your sugar levels if you eat too many. On average, a person orders or consumes six chicken wings pieces in a day.

Sides must be avoided at all costs especially if it's Bacon Cheddar Fries with Ranch Dipping Cup for its high sodium content. You must also avoid New York Style Cheesecake with Applesauce as dessert as one slice of this dessert item contains 86g sugar. Pizza Hut also offers other Italian dishes such as Pasta. However, you must skip Spaghetti with Meat Sauce and Meatballs and Garlic Bread as it is too high in sodium and sugar.

Fast-food restaurants like Pizza Hut are not recommended to dine-in if you are diagnosed with high blood pressure. Most pizzas at Pizza Hut are high in sodium and hence you must stick to one or max. two slices of any regular size pizza to limit your sodium intake. Try out the salads as they are not only healthy but also keeps you full for a longer period. However, you must ensure that you don't order the salads without any extra dressing.

High Cholesterol at Pizza Hut

Whether large, medium or small, a pizza can boost your cholesterol levels instantly. You shouldn't eat more than one slice of any pizza your order at Pizza Hut. If you're concerned with your high cholesterol, then it is wise to take your friends to Pizza Hut and share pizza among them slice by slice. You can also try pasta at Pizza Hut but ensure that you are not adding any dressing or extra cheese as you order pasta.

The pizza here is overpriced and not that great tasting.

A little too greasy, and I don't prefer thin crust.

Pizza my heart was such a staple in my diet when i was a student at ucsc. I loved this place so much! The pizza is great, and has plenty of choices available by the slice. Or you can buy a whole pie and choose your own toppings for it. I used to come here with my ex-bf on dates. This place was awesome, but always packed. Not enough seats :/ i have yet to try the palo alto pizza my heart. Don't know if it'll hold up to the original here in s.c.

Walk up pizza shop. There is not a better pizza-by-the-slice in possibly the state. C has been a fan since she was a kid as she grew up in SC. I was not fortunate enough to be so spoiled. However, that gave me the opportunity to have the great search for "California's Best Pizza By The Slice!" Each time I stand in line at Pizza My Heart I realize how good their pizza must be since each customer cringes in torment thinking about their favorite slice. Ooh, I'm gonna get the pesto- says one customer. Then their friend says, But that Chicken Bacon sounds so good. I agree with the second customer as I have deemed that my go to slice. Every time I order it there are mounds of bacon, plentiful amounts of sliced white chicken breast and the melody of white sauce and green onions is insane. I love the Chicken Bacon! Service can get blocked up at times when new pizzas come out of the onion and reorganization of their counter takes place, but otherwise it is pretty fast and it is super cheap. Huge slice of pizza, great ingredients and only $4. Stoked. Oh and grab a Pizza My Heart T-Shirt for only a dollar more. That way the homeless can afford trendy street wear and get a meal too.

I gave my heart (and $5) to Pizza My Heart, and in exchange they gave me a big delicious slice and a t-shirt! Woop! I cannot visit SC without stopping by here - the pizza is just so damn tasty! There's a huge variety of interesting toppings, and the slices are big (although I always end up getting two!) and for a pretty reasonable price. The crust is nice and thin and crispy and the toppings are not too greasy. I like the pizza they make with the chicken and bechamel sauce for a change from the usual tomato/cheese topping. I like all the old surfer photos and surfboards on the walls, and I love how the front of shop staff are always nonchalant, scruffy student types. It gets my vote!

  • Jeff S.

Pizza My Heart? More like Pizza My Fart! In all seriousness, they make killer pie here but I find it to be a bit over priced. Considering how broke I usually am, I only get Pizza My Heart when I'm either drunk and not considering how much I'm spending or when I wanna take my old lady on a hot date. I only say it like that because for the cost of a few slices or a large pie, you can get a gormet sushi platter right across the street.

So we just called for delivery, it's 11 pm and their website said we can place an order up til 11:55. The employee said that she had enough orders for the night to keep them busy so they were not taking any more orders. Well, I'm from Chicago where pizza can be delivered up till 2 am with no hesitation. My friend and I are so appalled by this company's disregard for future business. So we ordered from Woodstock pizza which does follow up with what they advertise on their website. Needless to say even though we are only in Santa Cruz once a year we will definitely not order from this establishment.

  • Paul Z.

This was the single best place to get pizza in the entire downtown Santa Cruz area. Hands down. Pricey to me but for the area the prices were average and you can order by the slice. The people working here were quick and professional and more importantly the taste of the pizza is awesome. So, overall the "za" experience here is excellent. Should I ever find myself wandering the streets of Santa Cruz again I WILL be coming back in for another slice ;)

YUMMY!!! grabbed a slice (ok ok i had two) after a fun day at the beach in santa cruz last weekend....crispety crunchety crust...tangy sweet sauce and yummy toppings. The hawaiian pizza was great and just loaded with pineapple....the pesto was also awesome --- pesto, cheese and just a drizzle of tomato sauce...deeelish

What a nice little place with such a big variety! When I was in Santa Cruz visiting my friend at the time she took me to downtown and showed me around. We ended up at this "pizza place she knew about." The place is nice and cozy I'd say but I wouldn't recommend sitting outside. The pizza is thin and crunchy but a mouthful of flavor in each bite, would I come here again? Yes. Too bad there are no locations here in San Diego...oh well I guess it will just make it all more special =]! I wouldn't give this place a 5 or a 4...since to me pizza will always be just that...pizza. +'s Cheap Variety Convenient location -'s Pizza may be a bit too thin Not enough seats It's not in San Diego ='[

    (3)
  • Gina Z.

Compared to other Pizza My Hearts in the Bay Area, this one has more traffic coming in and out of there....meaning their pizza is always fresh and they usually have a greater selection. Good for a late night bite after a night of drinking on Pacific!

  • Kay S.

I'm super surprised to see all these bad reviews! I ate PMH for the first time a few weeks ago and it was pretty darn good. It was better than any of the big companies that deliver and it was cheaper. I don't know how much more you expect from a pizza place but it worked for me. I heart Pizza My Heart! (Not as much as Roundtable (nomnomnom) but whatev)!

Really good pizza and nice atmosphere. Service is friendly and quick. I'd recommend this place to anyone wanting to enjoy a good slice of pizza in Santa Cruz!

Not a big pizza fan, so I really have to be dazzled to give this a high rating. Pizza crust is thin and sauce is not great. Pepperoni's look and taste cheap, and restaurant is very small, very little space to sit. Not a very good experience. Not a big pizza fan, so I really have to be dazzled to give this a high rating. • Jennifer F.

A friend of a friend had mentioned that this place was pretty good. The line was out the door, so we assumed the friend was right. Pros: variety of tasty pizza flavors & salads decently priced fun atmosphere friendly staff Cons: small dining area (not enough tables means people fighting for them before people even stand up) metered street parking or parking garage within walking distance I ordered a slice of Maui Wowee and a Caesar salad w/ a drink. It cost just under $8. It's thin crust pizza, which I like. Usually Canadian bacon is somewhat salty on pizza, but this was perfect! I'd definitely try this place again.

  • ally s.

the crust is so thin and crispy! and the quality of their pizza remains consistent, like the other locations. i love the cheese, and the toppings are fresh and they don't skimp at all. prices are reasonable and they also have assorted salads, with really yummy dressings. i always come here when i see a movie downtown. the employees are nice and friendly, and the prices make my wallet happy. they also deliver, and you can order online. so cool!

  • NB N.

What I would do for a slice of Pepperoni Pizza from this place right now! Great stuff...thin crispy crust. Always streaming hot and gooey cheese! Tomato sauce just right...tomato-ey and tangy. If you are ever near this part of CA, you must stop by for the pizza.

  • Kelly M.

Sure this place is known for the pizza but their salads aren't' too shabby either. Out of the 4-5 different salad selections, the Greek Salad was pleasantly delicious. Usually these pre-made salads in a container are pretty skimpy on the ingredients. But not this one. Chalked full of calamata olives, artichoke hearts and lots of crumbled feta. Try it with the raspberry vinaigrette - out of all the choices it's the most complimentary dressing. For only $3.25 - you get the most bang for your buck!!

$5 for a huge slice of delicious pizza AND a t-shirt? SOLD. I heart Pizza My Heart because their prices are very fair, their hours are great for those long drunken nights out with my friends, and their pizza is very unique. The thin-crust style is refreshing when compared to the medium/thick-crusted local pizzas or the fast-food grease sponges from Domino's. My favorite pizza from here is the Big Sur. Whole cloves of garlic topped with cheeses and a million different meats...DROOL-age. They also have a whole rack of different seasonings, cheese, and hot sauce which you can put all over your pizza. Also, be sure that your pizza is fully warm when you get it, I've gotten unmelted cheese on my slice before--but that still doesn't take away from the fact that this is the best pizza you're gonna get for your buck in Santa Cruz!

  • Minja M.

Santa Cruz is my hometown. There's nothing better then going home and finding that my favorite places are still there, still the same and still serving the same great food. I love this pizza. Buy the slice, buy the whole pie - just buy it, because you will love it. I lived in New Haven, CT for a year and ate world famous pizza from Sally's, Modern and Frank Pepe's regularly and I think Pizza my Heart is on the same level

  • K C.

I LOVE PIZZA MY HEART!! I came to Santa Cruz to visit my friend who goes to UCSC and he recommended this awesome place. We ordered the "sunset" that includes, pineapple, a few diff chesses, bacon, and Canadian bacon, and some others I can't remember lol It was a thin crust. Yum! The place is really cozy, the workers are way friendly, and the price is definitely fair. (I definitely do not recommend ordering by the slice...that of course is more expensive) This place totally reminds me of California's Pizza Kitchen, except you don't need to pay tips cus you just order your pizza and then when it's ready, you pick it up and bring it to your own table. Only thing is, there are only like 8 tables, each can seat 4 ppl (or 6 if you must) so we had to wait. and since it's self-served, they don't seat you, you just wait around and hope no one will cut you. Lucky for us, this couple finished and knew we were waiting, so they offered their table to us. I found needing a coin to go to the bathroom kinda weird, but they do that so hobos don't come in to use it. Well, at least it's kinda clean. (not too well lit thought) The pizza tasted sooo good, and it was filling. If I ever come back to santa cruz, hell ya I'm coming back to pizza my heart =] It's just the best place to bring a group of hungry friends.

Not only does this place stand on its own merits as a delicious pizza making factorium, but the name contains a delightful pun! You really can't lose with a place like this. I know that this is not, perhaps, the greatest pizza of all time. I've heard from many people who think it is average at best, overrated, not that good, tastes like alligator fat that's been stored in a bag of old shoes and boiled in sewage, etc. But I think, and my opinion matters, that this is the best pizza in Santa Cruz. That opinion is weighted by emotion more so than reason, but sometimes our feelings reveal hidden truths about ourselves and the world around us. Mine are probably trying to tell me that I'm a stupid try-hard yelper for speaking so philosophically about pizza. No matter. I crave the pesto pizza the way Ann Landers craves friends.

    (4)
  • Nadine D.

The pizza here is pretty good, very greasy thought. But, it's pizza, what do you expect. The one little problem i have with this place is this: I order a salad and am really craving some feta cheese on it. They have feta, yeah, but even though I'm willing to pay extra for it, they will not sell it to me. Just a little side of feta, it takes five seconds to go scoop some out of the fridge and charge me a buck for it. Nope. It's against policy. Seems to me that, if you're a business that;s trying to make money, you sell what you can. I seriously don't see the logic in that decision.

First time ever eating at Pizza My Heart, have seen the tshirts around for years! So glad we waited in the line it was delicious! The line was out the door but they were working hard in there to keep it moving! Now were all sporting our own t shirts!

    (5)
  • Sandy N.

Ok after seeing a bunch of people wearing tshirts from this place at the boardwalk, I finally decided to go and pay them a visit. First of all I noticed that they hand toss their dough, yes real dough, not that frozen frisbees other pizza joint uses. The slices there are niced sized and with a slice you have the option of getting a tshirt too, you just have to let the person you pay know. I think its just an extra buck. If u dont want a shirt, I think its $3-4 for a slice (depending on what topping you get). Theres a variety of slices to choose from. Its nice of them to heat up your slice for you. A sign that you know a place has good food is that the turn over of food is quick and the place is full, such as this one. Parking stinks, yes youre downtown so either find a meter or a parking lot nearby. (I parked at the local grocery store just around the corner) Theres a whole lot of hot sauces and condiments available. The booths are huge and theres plenty of room for like 6 people. As for the pizza, it tasted awesome and I wish that there was a Pizza My Heart in my city, Ive been looking for a place that makes their dough. Its too bad that I have to go so far to get good tasting pizza. Ya you can pay $5 for a whole Little Caesars pizza, but if your into frisbee pizzas - go for it.

So its wednesday which in my family is pizza night and we of course ordered from PMH online. So half an hour later the pizza came, but we ordered two and the guy only brought us one. So after letting him go we check the order and saw they made a mistake. Called and the manager got right on the phone, apolagized and sent us our pizza. When it got here it had a hand written note saying that because of the mix up, they were giving us the pizza free. Polite and always great to order from.

  • Rae C.

Mmmmm, the last time we were here I had an awesome slice with clam and garlic and it was delicious. Not sure what it's called, but it was really tasty. My fiancee had the big sur, which I think had sausage, pepperoni, and roasted garlic cloves on it. He LOVED the roasted garlic cloves, and kept talking about how good they were.

long line out the door = pretty much guaranteed to be good. pizza was delish, service was fast. the pesto slice was my fave. that's all there is to it!

  • Irene L.

The pizza was pretty good and they delivered to our little bonfire party out @ Twin Lakes. Later on we stopped by in person when we were strolling dtwn SC and they were one of the few places still open on a late Saturday. I miss living in SC....

  • Victor A.

I used to eat here a lot when I was small but when I moved here I ate here all the time! The place is kinda small and seating is really limited but the pizza is good. To be honest, I don't really know how to describe it and what makes it good.... but it just is. And to be even more honest, back in high school we'd get really f'ed up and ALWAYS go here to eat. OPEN LATE! And when something taste good when you're sober, then it taste AMAZING when you're drunk. Good times. Bottom line, Pizza My Heart is good and you get a lot of what makes Santa Cruz Santa Cruz right there in the downtown strip. I really need to get a Pizza My Heart shirt.

  • Jose S.

Best pizza so far in Santa Cruz. Free entertainment by the people who hang out outside lol

    (5)
  • Paul S.

Standard PMH pies, done as you walk in, floppy and greasy, but fast. My big gripe here is not being able to eat in peace. I have had more homeless guys, hop heads, and moochers trying to bum cash for a slice. Charity is all good, but there is a time and a place.

  • Roy N.

Despite the fact that I have seen the pizza at this location get progressively worse over the past couple years, I still love it. When the bars are closing and 2AM is rolling around, this place calls to you in the night with their slices of thin crust and Sicilian-style pizza. So greasy, so unhealthy, but gawd...so good for you! When that late night after-drinking hunger hits, it sure beats the alternative down the street...Taco Smell...er, Bell. Bonus points for Pizza My Heart's $5.00 T-shirt and a slice of pizza deal. What a deal!!! Their inexpensive surf music CD isn't too bad either. It's the perfect CD to play when you blow off work and head south to Santa Cruz.

    (4)
  • Dorian T.

A slice of pizza and a t-shirt $5-$6 dollars what a deal!!! but it aint so great if you just want a slice of pizza for $4 bucks. call me cheap but im headed to costco, with no costco card of course!

  • Jenny B.

Dude. Duuuuuuuudddddeeeeee. This pizza is good. Really good. And I'm not just saying that because I had been drinking all weekend and had massive amounts of alcohol to absorb. The pizza is super hot and greasy and fast. Which in those wee hours of the morning mean a lot to a girl. What's fun about this place is obviously the people watching. Have you ever been to downtown Santa Cruz at 2 AM? Put that on your to do list my friend because its a hodge podge of crazy that you do not want to miss. 5 stars all the way!!

Line is going out the door .... Need I say more.

  • Robert S.

Good pizza on a regular basis with hand made pizza pies or by the slice if you just have that craving walking by. As the first pizza my heart they really put the effort into this location with the all copper piping from the pizza oven. This gives a very unique look. I used to get pizza here when my friend worked here every Monday. you have to try my special and see if they will make it for you. Large pepperoni, garlic and basil (occasionally add some linguisa) but the trick here is I had them make it so the pepperoni's were crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. this is possibly by cooking the pepperoni separate from the pie on a sheet and then adding them at the end. My favorite pizza but no one will make it for me. Open late on the weekends and located right in downtown. VERY NICE PAIRING!!!!

    (4)
  • Lily N.

Had a "super veggie" slice today, and got a t-shirt...for $6 The cashier + staff were pretty slow, especially considering the line was going out the door. And she also got frustrated really easily. Pizza was alright. Thin crust and they didn't skim on the toppings, but because their garlic shaker was inefficiently made, my slice was full of garlic.

    (3)
  • Madeleine L.

This place is amazing and all you could ever ask from pizza. The pesto is my favorite because you got some walnut chunks on there to bring it all together!!! Everything is amazing and the place is fun and definitely a well known local spot. I'm moving soon and will definitely be craving pizza my heart all the time!!!

    (5)
  • Sean K.

Decent pizza, love that its open late night, but I stick to the basics here. A lot of the inventions dont have cohesive flavors in my opinion, and kind of diminish the pie.

    (3)
  • Pam B.

Went here while we were on vacation. My daughter had a slice of cheese pizza and thought it was pretty good. My son had a slice of pepperoni and sausage and really liked it. I had a slice of Prima pizza and thought is was only ok. I like my pizza with a slightly thicker crust and the crust here is thin. We went there about 5:00pm and by 5:30pm when we left, the place was really buzzing with the line going out the door.

    (3)
  • James M.

If you've ever eaten at any Pizza My Heart you already know what to expect, but don't come here if you're in any kind of a rush. Be prepared to sit through a couple stories being told by the cashiers to each other while they slowly count out your change, finish giggling, do something else, start another suuuper interesting story about the guy that came in the other day and omg did you see his shoes lololol while you stand there waiting for someone to acknowledge you and give you your change, and then after all of this has taken place, enjoy your pizza. Nice remodel, place has way way more seating now.

After having such a good experience at another location, it was aggravating the pace that the employees worked at here....wait took forever, it was midday around 2pm and we were just ordering by the slice!! Of course the pizza was delicious, but please pick up the pace!

I came in here and it was steady but not super busy. Had Anita been doing her job and not trying so hard to be cute the line would have moved faster. She was drinking her soda on the food line, I find that tacky and gross. There was a young man working the register and he had to ask her repeatedly to do things. Every time he asked her to do something, politely I might add she had to smart off and argue playfully. When it's hot and there is a line just do your job. I used to love this place but now it seems that they only hire teenagers interested in flirting with one another. Also it was super dirty. Every table outside was gross! Next time I guess I will try east side maybe they have more pride in their establishment and employees.

July 18, 5pm. Busy, not slammed. No ice. Pizza was re-heated. Booths were dirty. Bathrooms were dirty. Pizza was ok. Considering the high price, I expected much better! Would not go back.

Loved the atmosphere of downtown Santa Cruz, however when I visited this time they were understaffed and it was a busy time of day(dinner time) orders took longer than usual. The food was amazing at first but only when fresh. After a while the pizza got really hard and stale (15 mins) couldn't enjoy it as much as i did when it first came out.

I was down in Santa Cruz working and we took the afternoon to check out the beach and buy some swag. We walked by this pizza place and remembered everyone has raved about it. I wanted to see what all the hype was about so I ordered a slice. When they had curry powder on the rack of seasonings for you to use I had to try it and people......I could not believe my taste buds. Now every time I eay pizza its just not the same. Pizza My heart has ruined me when it comes to pizza. I so look forward to road tripping down there and experiencing this amazing pizza.

Thank God for this place being open til 2am on a Saturday night! My bf and I had left the catalyst after seeing Shwayze perform and were in need of some food to sober up. The pizza place connected to the bar/club was already closed and I had looked on yelp and found pizza my heart was just across the street. It was super packed but the employees kept up with the crowd. Their pizza is always satisfying. I feel like you cant go wrong with the pesto pizza. The only thing I'm sad about is not trying their feta and fig pizza. It sounded so weird but i'm sure it tasted amazing. Next time!

Great pizza. Lots of variety. Wish they did whole pizza instead of expensive single slices

It's a Santa Cruz landmark for a slice that just says I'm in Surf City. The new place is bigger and better without losing the old feel. Gotta go for a shirt and a slice. Best pizza in town.

I've been coming here since I was a teen and when the Hubs and I took a vacation to Santa Cruz I knew I had to make him try it. He's from Chicago, so needless to say he's kind of a Pizza snob. We ordered a Pork-a-licious and it was delicious! SPICY, but delicious. The hubs was impressed with this saying "it's the best California pizza he's had" highly recommend this pizza.

Thin style CALI/NY mix good topping fresh and ready to eat. yes its popular, theres a line and college kids "slugs " and potheads waiting for a great slice of food. Highly recommend this slice if your in the SC. Slugs Rule.

This place was great! Huge slice of pizza and a t-shirt for $6.00? Can't beat that! So many different pizza choices, good selection of beer and friendly staff. The only downside was the line, but I guess that's because it's so popular. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in town!

I thought this place was all hype but they do make a delicious pizza! The customer service isn't the best (they actually forgot half of our order but quickly fixed their mistake). They have the cool coke fountain where you can customize your drink. Don't forget to be super touristy and get a pizza my heart t-shirt!

Good pizza. It's worth the wait. They are usually busy on the weekends. Staff is friendly and helpful. There only down fall is staff is so busy empty tables don't get cleaned right away. They have a specialty pie everyday. Those are always very good.

Ordered the Big Sur pizza medium size yesterday. It came quickly in about 45 minutes. I ordered half of it with extra sauce. It didn't taste as though it had extra sauce I'm quite sure that it did not. It was nothing special. The bread the crust is quite good. The flavor of the pizza wasn't very good. The pepperoni was dry. It might have tasted like it was overcooked. If it was easy to return I would have done that. I ordered a salad for 10 people. They didn't have any in stock so they did send 10 salads in separate containers for the price of the 10 serving salad. I thought that was very generous and fair of them.

My organization has been taking college students to work in Santa Cruz for the last 25 years, and Pizza My Heart sits at the heart (pun intended) of our memories, inside jokes, and communal gatherings. Only in California would they have pizza competitions--events where you make up rich, fancy excuses to eat pizza. On the menu, you will find an entire section dedicated to "Award-Winning" pies. And they seem to love listing garlic as the first ingredient on the pizzas that contain said item, especially in the fashion of "40 cloves." There's something about advertising just says we need to use numbers. I mean, think about it: 8 oz. burger, 12 yr. aged vinegar.... the list goes on. Pizzas here boast a medium textured dough, in terms of its tug as well as its bite and thickness. As with most streamlined pizza franchises, with lots of system and structure in back-of-house, cheese and sauce are administered with a heavy hand. On the whole, the company knows what it is doing as well as living out a clear vision behind so: offering quality pizza and using simple ingredients.

Pizza my Heart is my favorite! They are open late, so it's a great place to eat when nothing else is open. I love the pesto and ricotta!! This place is consistent, the people who work there are super friendly and the pizza is great!!!

Meh, okay pizza. Other places downtown serve better stuff. Last time I went there it was pretty bad service. After waiting a few minutes for the servers to stop gossiping and start paying attention, I got the Hawaiian slice. The server was obviously not paying much attention, she literally dropped the slice on the dirty counter and then tried to serve it to me still.... ugh. And then I asked for a to go box, which she ignored and gave me a cheap paper plate. I said "could I please get a box? I am taking this to go and have a lot to carry". The server replied "ummm I guess I can do that if its really that big of a deal" and rolled her eyes. It made me feel really awkward, I left feeling embarrassed and annoyed at spending even $5 on this experience... I have been here other times and had better service

Here's why we ended up not eating here: Original visit: 12/28/14 Walked in for the 1st time and it was extremely busy. Not a big deal. Usually busy means good food right? The PMH in Capitola has delicious and tasty pizza so I'm hoping it's great here too. Unfortunately, we were waiting for service and saw a guy sneeze on his wrist near the glove and definitely over the pizza. He didn't turn his head or walk away! This disgusted me and I don't think we'll ever end up eating here. The ambiance and memorabilia is really cool. Some stuff about Santa Cruz and all sorts of history is neat to read on the walls. It's sad because I love PMH pesto pizza.

This place was very cool. The pizza was really good and I love the T-Shirts...they only go up to XL in adult size but it's still worth having a shirt from here.

Seems like the "it" pizza place to go to in town. Not as great as all the hype made it out to be. We had a slice of the Big Sur, it was VERY greasy and had one too many garlic cloves. The pizza was pretty pricey, but I guess it's for the large portions they serve.

  • Anthony M.

I was shocked. Everyone in Santa Cruz flocks here and I've tried the place a few times myself. Up until my most recent -- and last -- visit I thought the place was pretty cool and the pizza decent (price-wise and quality). I stopped by during dinner rush on a busy Friday night for a quick slice. Waiting in line I observed a few things I thought were worth sharing: 1) Multiple servers were handling the different pizzas, moving them from one tray to another (I then witnessed the servers wiping their uncovered hands on their jeans and resume handling the food). 2) Servers would wipe the counter with a rag and continue to wipe the spaces between the pizzas TOUCHING (and effectively wiping) the pizzas with the soiled rags 3) The workers dropped a utensil that cleaned and cleared the area in the oven where the pizzas were heated. They subsequently picked the tool up, placed it back where it had fallen, and used it to clean the oven. They didn't replace the dirty tool. 4) With the line growing longer, and the other servers occupied, the lone server watched us wait for someone to take our order but decided to wipe the counter instead. For a few minutes. Before she decided she wanted to serve us. Basically, the place is obscenely unsanitary. I will not be coming back.

This branch is on the busiest street in Santa Cruz. Especially during the night and weekends, there will be a lot of people enjoying a fast and gourmet pizza here. The servers are passionate about their job. The cooks are friendly and funny, they would make a special pose for me when I try to take photos of the kitchen.:) It's New York style thin pizza. They cook pizza in the way like India jilt bread, turning like a handkerchief. Their specialty is that they have millions kinds of seasoning. My favorite is Cayenne pepper in powder shape, they even have Cayenne pepper sauce. The price is fair for pizza. They have fruits of toppings. There are many photos of surfing. The decorations is surfing themes. It's very interesting.

Five star worthy for the take out. I got into Santa Cruz late night and was starving. I ordered a pizza for pick up. The D'lux, it was delicious, also picked up some wings and a slice of cheese pizza for my seeeeestar. It was very cool that around 10:30 at night they were still selling pizza by the slice. Definitely worth checking out if you're in Santa Cruz.

This place is on point! I love how I know what I'm getting every time I go. Whether its midnight after a concert or noon before a movie it's consistently delicious! The staff is super friendly and take care of their customers making you feel welcome! I love how it feels in there. The updated decor is super swanky too. Its a chill atmosphere that I'm stoked we have downtown. Keep it up!

I took my boyfriend here for his first time hoping he'd love it. Our pizza was cold by the time we paid for it. They told us the soda machine was out of ice however they didn't mention all the sodas but diet were also out. I attempted to get a refund & the girl asked multiple people to sign into the register to give me one. None of them did & they completely ignored my request so we said forget it. Also all the employees were some of the most rude people. Hands down the worst customer service I've received. DON'T GO.

OMG, finally went in here after they renovated! It used to be really small. I feel like it's 4 times the size now. They have TVs in the back. The pizza display is much bigger, too! I feel like I even order twice as much as I used to. In fact, this is the biggest PMH I've ever been to and the Capitola one as the smallest. I finally tried their Chinese chicken salad and the sauce was legit. I usually like my sauce tangy and salty and this was on point. The down side is that my wonton strips were not crispy. They also carry Honest juice drinks for the kids, but I also tried it for the big kid in me. Honest products are finally making way to the public. They are organic and only use natural sugar. The Monday special was Fort Point. It has both pesto and tomato sauce, chicken, tomato slices, and artichoke. It was delicious! The downside, our crusts were burnt! I love my crusts. Their pepperoni never disappoints. It has a little heat to it and the pepperoni is on the smaller side. You normally see bigger sizes. I think this is my most favorite pepperoni yet. They do have outdoor seating.

Pizza My Heart is so expensive that as a working-class college student I can't really afford to eat here. Slices are $4+ and a whole pie usually ends up being about $30 after tax and tip. They DO load on the toppings, but I'm not really into that because it feels more like you're eating a stir-fry topped piece of flatbread than a pizza. If you're gonna stop by, bring some friends to split the bill. Or your rich dad.

  • Rhubarb M.

They always undercook their pizza on Pacific PMH. Customer service at this location is pretty bad too. I like to think it's the crappy one for tourists. Sorry tourists. Always head to 41st, such better pizza and service.

This place is the KING OF PIZZA....and this branch is truly the best of them all. Lots of seating and friendly service. The workers at the Oakland branch are so moody! :( Anyways, the pizza is fantastic. Thin crust, hot and flavorful. I love all the varieties. Every time I'm in town, this is my go-to place. I've tried pizza all over CA and throughout the US, and this place is still my fave, hands down. :)

Best pizza in santa cruz......period ! We had to go up to Santa Cruz to register our son for you UCSC, we asked the locals where the best pizza in town is, they said pizza my heart, we went there and they were all right! You could purchase a whole pizza at a reasonable price, or buy it by the slice, either way its super good and we can't wait to get back up to Santa Cruz to experience it again.

    (5)
  • Steven T.

I loved it here. My friends and I stopped by on our way to visit friends at UCSC while spending the day in Santa Cruz and we were looking for a place to eat so why not PMH? 4 stars because the atmosphere was great (given that the Giants game was on, but it wasn't packed) -1 star because the pizza was slightly cold when I got it. The quality was still top notch despite being cold. Crust was a bit on the meh side, but I ate it anyway. Love PMH and always will.

When I first moved to Santa Cruz and had Pizza My Heart, I was very disappointed. On a whim one night, I decided to try it again (it was one of the only things open). I was very pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I'm not sure what made this visit better than the rest (maybe it was the beer I had beforehand), but I wouldn't mind coming again. Don't know what they changed, or if the last time I had it was a fluke, but I readily enjoyed it.

We always make sure to come by Pizza my Heart before we head back home. And love the remodel too! We usually are here before 5 and couldn't believe how long the lines were but the wait was so worth it! Meet new friends and even had 3 friends who have never been here too. We all got our tshirts even the new colors/designs were too cute to pass up so I purchased one of ea! My husband n son will them since they didn't know I took a detour to Santa Cruz with the girls lol ... But I have to give a shout out to Ashley I didn't want to stand In the line again and she rang us up of course I was indecisive she was so patient and even brought me all the different shirts... I kept apologizing she said not to worry abt it lol so I got them all thanks Ashley for helping me pick a tshirt out lol and most of all smiling! We will be back everyone loved the pizza too

Got into town around 8 and stopped by to see my friend at work, this was close and by and pretty cheap so we are here. The slice looked really big (I got the one with pesto and almonds or pine nuts, can't remember which) but when I tried to pick it up it was super thin! It just wilted down. It was definitely delicious but I had to eat pretty much with my mouth on my plate since I couldn't hold it up. I would go back I just wish it was a little thicker. Also, really awesome that they don't charge for ranch. And the tables were beautiful!

There's not a lot of pizza places in santa cruz, but with a place as good as pizza my heart you don't need any other pizza joints. The Pizza is worth five stars by itself. There's a changing pizza of the day every day of the week, strong vegetarian options, and all the classics such as pepperoni, ham and pineapple etc. All freshly made and cooked when you order. Buy a slice or buy a whole pizza. Salads are also made daily, wide selection of soft drinks via the coke freestyle machine or the ever popular glass bottles. Local beer is on also on tap. The seating area inside was just remolded last fall and consists mostly of comfortable booths with the usual handicap accessible tables. Televisions are on the walls but not in a loud intrusive way. Decor is surfer style, and oh yeah there is a giant, colorful fiberglass shark hanging from the ceiling. Among other things. Outdoor seating is patio style, and in the summer is highly recommended. Tips: Order a salad with the pizza. By themselves both are good, together............maginifcant! In the summer expect long lines. Like out the door lines. If you need a whole pizza/have a large group, call it in. The pickup line is never very long. In summer if you want to have an outdoor seat, have one of your party go stake one out while you go get the pizza. Did I mention the long lines in summer? Yeah. Be prepared to be patient., it's totally worth it. Given the nature of the nieghborhood, you're gonna have to park and walk. Fear not there is plenty of parking about a block off pacific in any direction which regrettably you will pay a small fee for.

This place...has ginormous pieces of pizza. They have a pretty efficient setup...pick your slice (from between 5 and 7 different pre-made pizzas), they put the slice in the oven, then you move down the line and pay. One awesome thing they have is a mass selection of spices you can put on everything. Curry, cayenne, dill...all sorts of stuff. The decor is very strange. Lots of random stuff all over the place and a flaming shark? Pretty ridiculous. Minus one star for the fact that one of my pieces wasn't warm enough.

Yuuuuumm!!! Been going to PMH since I was young, but recently went to the Pacific Ave. location for the first time this week. Sooooo good!!! I had a slice of Pesto and a Watsonville and they were both deeeeeeelish!!!! Service was pretty quick and they moved the line along quickly. Place has been remodeled and is very clean. I'm craving the pizza still!

Pizza is too thin, decent taste. But when you pay 4 bucks for a slice you expect a little more food then that. Blue cheese dip tasted more like the dressing you buy at the store. You guys need to go to western NY to see how pizza and blue cheese is done.

My first time here.. the kids were hungry after playing at the beach all day and riding at the boardwalk. Well at first it was confusing trying to figure out which way the line was going or where it started. I had the pepperoni mushroom slice and it was good East coast style pizza thin crust. Caroline was debating between the pesto pizza or the same as me pepperoni & mushroom. I normally would tell her to try something new and get the pesto and if she didn't like it of course Mom will trade her and eat it. Not today I said don't get it because I'm not giving you my pizza today. Natalie got the Prima Pizza which is her favorite. Good pizza spot :)

When I walked into the restaurant, there was a guy standing in front of the display case. There was a girl behind the counter, and she was on her iPhone texting someone. I asked the guy if he was in line and he said yes. She then looked up, and started sweeping, and didn't acknowledge either of us. Another woman came down and took our order. I then move down to the cashier, and he was bouncing all over the place. I paid for my order, and went and got my drink in less than 30 seconds, return to the counter, and he asked me could he help me. I reminded him about the two slices, and he said oh yeah. When he went to go get it, he dropped one of the slices. The whole place is a mess, floors need to be swept, tables need to be wiped off, and trash needs to be taken out. The second piece of pizza was still cold. Two slices of pizza and a small drink it's 10 bucks. Kind of pricey for cold pizza, bad customer service, and a dirty restaurant.

Was spending the day in Santa Cruz and came here for the first time and loved it. I got the Wednesday special, San Andreas, which had pastrami and peppercinis. (Two of my favorites but I've never had them in pizza form) The slice was huge and delicious. I loved all the different condiment options. I also purchased a tshirt because it was such a good deal for a fun souvenir! Wish there was a Pizza My Heart closer to Novato!

As a college student I often get hungry on the weekends late at night and from time to time I get sick of the university dining hall either because its bland or because its closed. Pizza my heart offers individual pizza slices for three bucks thats a total win. I love this place. It gets overcrowded since its a popular spot to go eat but customer service is fast due to a lot of customers. The pizza is pretty good and the employees are friendly. . Huge plus... they're open till 2am on saturday and other days till midnight.. Thank you pizza my heart employees for satisfying my late night cravings. I appreciate you!

Pizza tastes good. Cheesy bread is really good. They have a coke machine that offers like 100 different sodas. The only bummer is price. We didn't get much for what we paid. Pizza is very thin. Customer service was great!

Fun place! Love the flaming shark on the wall. But you can't beat a big slice of pizza and a t-shirt for $6:) It was great for my family because we were all able to get our own type of pizza. We all mentioned to each other how much we enjoyed our slice. The craft beer was a plus, as was the Coke machine with all the soda choices. The only down side was the line out the door. But to be honest, that's what let us know it had to be good.

This is one of the best pizza places in California. The pizza is new york style and has a crispy crust. There are many different types of pizza i had the pesto that was very flavorful!

For fast food pizza, there is no equal. Not only is their pizza crispy and flavorful, but they have many after-baking toppings to enhance the slice... Also the 100 or so flavor soda machines (which are always cool) Great place for a quick bite

Pizza was great, and I love that you can get a slice and a T-shirt for $6. The big TVs made watching March Madness convenient and fun! From an out of state perspective, pizza was great but not the best I've ever had.

So I've heard a lot about Pizza My Heart. I am from the south bay and everyone basically loves this place (most of us have been to the one at the Valley Fair). So I was in the Santa Cruz area and thought I would go see what the fuss is all about. I ordered a slice of cheese pizza and it did not look appetizing at all. The pizza itself did not taste that good. I mean it wasn't terrible, but it is not something I would eat again. Maybe it would have tasted better if I had toppings on it, but I really did not enjoy the food there. The service was nice though and this place had a really nice dining environment, it made me feel cozy. The water was also super cold and refreshing, it's pretty much the only thing I loved.

Really yummy pizza. Really yummy ranch! Fed our family of four for under $40 and got four tee shirts to wear to the beach the next day. Can't beat that!! I had the big sur! Highly recommend. The kids had the cheese (they said it was the best ever!) husband had the Hawaiian and a combo. The line was long but it moved pretty fast and one slice of pizza is actually two. Plus there is a Trolly right out front that took us back to our hotel for only .25 per person! Loved the food and loved our shirts, the service wasn't the friendliest but that's okay!! The food made up for it.

Honestly I have no idea why this place is always crowded. I went last night (5/1) to grab a quick bite before a movie. The line didn't seem that bad since I usually see it out the door, but I was there for a good 20 minutes. As I approached the front, I soon realized why. Some employees where just staring at each other doing nothing as I waited to order?? While avoiding eye contact with me and the others in line??? Like wat. So as I waited for them to acknowledge me, I got to observe what else the workers were doing. One was wiping around the pizzas to clear the area of fallen toppings. BUT the towel was also wiping all the crusts of the pizzas. The pizzas we eat. The towel looked far, FAR from clean. Just whhhy. Also, once I ordered, I noticed that the workers handle/touch the slices with their bare hands. Which is kinda okay if they frequently wash their hands right? Nah. They just wipe their hands on their jeans. I cringed, but made up some excuse in my head that the heat in the oven would kill the germs. The pizza itself is just alright. Slightly reminiscent of Costco pizza, just with a thinner crust and no excess oil. While I was nomming along, I watched the oven be cleaned by a broom/scraping kind of thing. As I questioned how often the broom was cleaned, I watched it FALL TO THE FLOOR. THE FLOOR. So trying to be optimistic about the situation, I thought they would clean it or something. Nope. It was placed right back on its hook like nothing happened. Almost as if it happens all the time. I might as well have just eaten my pizza off the floor. The 25 minute wait was the only reason I was able to stomach it down tbh. I was practically gagging as I was eating. As much as I would have loved to talked to the manager, I was on a super tight time crunch. And honestly, it's okay because I almost never go here. Now I have many more reasons why to avoid this place.

This place was the best for years, but there's been a bad change. do not order anything with sausage. It seems like something bought frozen in a bag & it looks like rat droppings; nothing like the delicious topping of the past

Not sure what the fuss was all about..mediocre pizza. The pizza was just ok and the whole set up of ordering and picking up makes room for too many order errors. If you're visiting so cal, don't waste you time going out of the way to come here.

This is by far my favorite pizza my heart location!! Especially since they expanded I love that there is plenty of room to sit even when it's busy because typically its always busy. Pizza my heart is pizza my heart I don't think I really need to go into detail but for the people who have never had it. One you are missing out on life!!! The sauce is sweet and delicious, the crust is perfectly thin and has a sweet taste, a nice chewy/crunchy texture. Let's just say this would be my last meal on earth that's how good it is. I could eat here like 4 days a week but dot since there isn't a pizza my heart in Lodi or even close so yes I drive about two hours at least once a month or every other month to fulfill my craving. That should say something.

$6 for pizza and a T-shirt? Yes please! Pros: great tasting pizza, great staff, affordable food Cons: somewhat greasy (but tasty) I came into Pizza My Heart around 2pm Friday afternoon and was surprised to see that this place was practically deserted besides a table of two. Though it seemed weird, I was not complaining because I was happily greeted, my order was taken and I was served very efficiently. Everyone was very friendly inside and I was able to get in and out under five minutes. I got the Big Sur and I liked what I tasted. It was greasy, but not soggy and the sausage and the garlic cloves? I loved everything about it. Affordable pizza for starving students~

What a Delite! I'm not partial to any one pizza place. Came into PMH for the first time last week. I was really impressed with the reasonably priced lunch specials. The employees actually all seemed to enjoy helping customers. Added bonus- like 300 different drink choices on the new Coke machines. That's an adventure in of itself. Give this place a shot...you will not be disappointed.

I did a walk in for a slice. Staff was nice and the food was good. It was a great value, something like $2.50 for a slice of cheese and med. soda. It was pretty clean considering all the traffic that was coming and going. Overall, a good experience. I would go back.

Pizza My Heart really hits the spot if you're looking for good pizza with fresh and unique ingredients. I think I'm partial to this location because they always have a slice or two of the **Big Sur** available for my immediate consumption. This big boy has WHOLE GARLIC CLOVES on it. Also pepperoni, sausage, portobello mushrooms, and green onions. And don't forget the organic tomato pizza sauce! The Little Sur (vegetarian version) is also amazing -- when they're out of the Big Sur I get its little brother instead. As long as it has the garlic cloves on there, it's mine! Always wicked crowded due to it being in prime college student location. There isn't usually much seating, but I've gotten lucky once or twice. There's a little public seating area if you walk outside and turn right. Perfect for me since I love people watching, especially in Santa Cruz. You can observe many a character!

First time and definitely coming back, a must visit if near the area! Slices are so big, one is definitely enough and great service on top of that!

Visited this place over the weekend while I was in Santa Cruz. Great little place. Decent prices, great pizza. Will definitely visit again the next time I am in town.

Ordered 3 kinds of pizza for our group while staying at a SC hotel last weekend. It was recommended by a friend and by the hotel's front desk. I thought the middle/toppings were pretty good (sausage & mushroom & Hawaiian), but the crust area was huge and tasteless; a waste of dough. They need to butter/spice the crust, or spread the sauce & toppings all the way to the edge. The kids hated the cheese pizza. It was bland and tasteless. My kids rarely hate a pizza.

Fast service and great tasting pizza at an affordable price! They nailed it pm the business model for Pizza My Heart, and that is who they are growing and expanding! Also a family friendly place to eat.

Went with my co-worker for lunch on 4/10 about 12:30, surprisingly it was pretty empty. There wasn't many choices for pizza, and what was there, looked like it had been sitting around for a bit. Then a combo comes out...we thought fresh, but it was heated...okay... Upon entering we couldn't figure out where to start...no signage or direction, not even a friendly greeting. The girl placing the pizzas around...didn't even want to give eye contact, and seemed annoyed when we asked where to start, and about the choices of pizza. The place is really nicely remodeled and bright and shiny. The pizza, we soon discovered as we got toward the middle to end was burnt....I couldn't enjoy my usual crust...uck! My co-worker was draining a pile of grease, and I kept feeling like they changed the dough recipe...and made it thinner...or maybe they got some of the yoga mat stuff??? Being less than satisfied, my co-worker offered to buy another slice...sure I'm a glutton for punishment! By then my other co-worker said that more than half hers was burnt also. We did say something and little Missy behind the counter said "oh it's burnt and you ate it anyway?" I had to say that we were commenting and not looking for a free slice...the next piece wasn't all that either. Overall, the place looks nice, but the service from one server, lack of direction for food service, food quality and taste and the the little servers attitude were all bad -WE WILL NEVER GO BACK!

Cute and smart promotion plan. 7.5USD for a pizza (really big piece) and a Pizza My Heart T Shirt (I believe there were 4-5 choices). Very reasonable price for a nice meal. Its 5USD including tax for only pizza (if not mistaken). The pizza was great, cook right as you ordered it and the restaurant environment was nice to have a short chat with friends.

Pretty good set up for families. Pizza by the slice selection is good and the oven warm-up quick. Thin crust isn't as flavorful on its own but cheese and topping are emphasized. Self-serve drink selection is extensive but not all flavors on menu were available. The booths in back sit 8 easily. Lots if room for kids. All kinds of tvs with sports channels and classic rock blasting on sound system. Bathrooms clean and toddler friendly. This place could be better if the young staff had more training on being customer service. Not many smiles and some had attitude.

Frustrating to que through a circuitous round about and then swim upstream back through the line to exit with a slice in hand. Welcome to the newly poorly designed improved experience for purchasing a slice. Pizza here is not worthy of this sort of time commitment. It's a rat in the maze with less than a thought about offering a dining experience. After all that? It's still just pizza.

Pizza My Heart! Came here for the pizza and the free shirt and I was surely not disappointed. The pizza slices were huge and well worth the price. Got the combination pizza as well as the big sur. Both my boyfriend and I agreed the combination pizza was better. Will be back for more!

Pizza My Heart is no culinary art but it's a kick start, when you fall apart, from the flow charts, that tear us apart, from everyday life... take part, in the graphic art, with a slice and a shirt for six bucks, wait, no money, aw shucks... walk in your Chucks, ride the bus, parallel park your truck...on Pacific Ave, if you're coming through, downtown Santa Cruz. Just don't be misunderstood, cause the pizza's good, Frisbees are 75 cents, that's past tense, in the sense, of that extremely low ex-pense...it's al a carte, that's hella smart, if you look at it like a pie chart..with all these college kids, in the skids, in a city by the ocean, doin' it like William Kid did. Good service is like gambling, when they're scrambling so be patient, go listen to the dude rambling...to himself outside, who just lied to his make-belief bride, don't get too close, somethin' died... oh damn, like wild yams and rotten clams...hell no, I'm back inside, grabbed my pie.... at ease, shakin' grated cheese, takin' pictures, what a tease..on the pati-O, like Van Gogh, watchin' the freakshow, whats up bro, you outgrow, that shirt along time ago, turbo...Porsches with golden retrievers, damn over-achievers....drunks, punks and kids with skunk...on skateboards, Fords, and weirdos with swords...ten speeds, I concede, it was me, double B, on vacation by the sea, under the Pizza My Heart marquee before sippin' drinks at the Nastee Astee. Moral of the story - it's good pizza in a very entertaining environment.

If you haven't been to Pizza My Heart in downtown SC since they remodeled it, GO GO GO! It's so huge now and has a much better vibe. There's this entire back area with booths and TVs that literally came out of nowhere. The pizza has always been really good, and they give you HUGE slices. I really like their veggie pizza.

This downtown place expanded. I don't know who is managing the place. But there was only one very competent girl cutting slicers and taking orders for an extremely long line and it took ue over 15 minutes just to order a two slices of pizza. One employee who was doing nothing in the back came out and put out more napkins in a holder and left! They had more efficient service when they were smaller. They just need more people to be working the counter. Outside of that, my only problem is the pie is inconsistent. Sometimes it's very good, other times just ok. I found when there a nice mixture of sauce and cheese it's very good, but if all I see is cheese it's average. It depends on who is making it. Whoever is managing this place is doing a terrible job. Maybe because of its new size it's a work-in-progress. As pie goes in Santa Cruz, it's definitely one of the better ones when the pie is good and the service is efficient.

The renovated huge PMH is my favourite on Pacific ave. Best pizza in town, stamp card, frisbee plates and the WiFi is always fast. Ohh and the original Santa Cruz PMH shirt is rocking.

The Little Sur pizza is so yummy! The sides of salad dressing are free if you'd like to dip the crust, ranch tastes fresh not bottled. I tried the combo last night by the pepperoni was very spicy, not my thing. I lean towards the meatless slices and have never been disappointed. We go here after enjoying the day at the Boardwalk. Oh yeah the salads a good too, also convenient to pack and take for a healthy lunch on the go. Enjoy!

About a month ago (2/1/15), my friends and I came here after a concert we were attending ended at the Catalyst. When we walked into Pizza My Heart, it was about 11:40 and the staff were closing down the store because they were only open until 12:00 am. Having worked in a similar concept pizza place and also having been to plenty of other Pizza My Hearts in San Jose, I figured that 20 minutes was enough time for the 3 of us to get a slice of whatever pizza they had left. We weren't expecting the freshest pizza ever or even the kind of pizza that we wanted. We had reasonable expectations and would be totally fine to get 3 slices of cheese or combo or whatever was left. When we walked in, it was immediately obvious that we were not wanted. The staff was closing down the store completely, and I even had to double-check the time to make sure it was actually 11:40 and that they were still open for business. A middle-aged caucasian man who I assume was the general manager was extremely rude to us. He was very short when taking our order and treated us like coming in 20 minutes before they closed made us the rudest, most idiotic people alive. Excuse us for giving your store business, sir, I sincerely apologize that our patronization of your restaurant was such a burden for you. When we received the pizza, it was disgusting. I know pizza, and I know that that pizza was not thoroughly cooked, nor even close to it. It was borderline inedible. It was obvious that they had only cooked the three slices until the cheese barely started to melt and then actually handed out the disgusting, barely cooked slices. When I worked at another thin crust pizza place, I cooked pizzas and from that experience knew that if my pizza was literally as floppy as a wet paper towel and had no crisp to it whatsoever, it was basically raw. I couldn't believe that I had patronized such a terrible establishment that has really blemished what I thought was a respectable pizza chain. If you're at the Catalyst for a concert in this area, I highly suggest that you go to another restaurant for those light night munchies so you don't have to experience such rude staff and terrible food.

I've been a big fan of PMH for years. Reason being, their pizzas are always consistent and they have so many interesting and delicious choices. Figgy Piggy and Watsonville, being two to mention. After 7 years of living here, I decided to write a review because of a great customer service experience I just had on the phone. I'll spare most of the details other than, my coworkers convinced me to buy pizza for the office today. Everett at the downtown location offered 1/2 and 1/2 options for the pizza and offered to cut slices in half. He also told me about a custom large salad they could make for the group. It seems like basic customer service skills, but he was patient and offered the extras that will please all 11 people in my office, which is usually impossibe!

Typically in point but not this time... We ordered a large pepperoni and sausage pizza done WELL DONE and when it came it was completely undercooked. The dough was raw and we were disappointed. When we called back to let them know, an employee named Nick told us that he was the one who personally pulled that pizza out of the oven and that it was definitely done and that there was nothing he could do about it. He told us, "Too bad and to write a yelp review about it..." Thanks Nick

YUM! I never even knew this was an actual pizza place. I thought Pizza My Heart was only the title of some cheesy movie. The prices are ridiculously cheap. Only $6 for a slice of pizza and t-shirt. The pizza is already about $4, so it's like getting a t-shirt for only $2! And since so many people wear these t-shirts, it's like free advertisement. I wasn't sure what to expect of the pizza, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered a slice of the Big Sur, and it was very tasty. The crust was thin and chewy. The entire slice was perfection. I would definitely come back here for another pizza + t-shirt combo. So worth it!

Best pizza I've ever had in my life! They've also expanded the size of their store from a few years ago. I love how they had a stand up comedian perform there as well one time I was eating there. The employees are awesome as well and fun to talk to. Best place to eat when you have the drunchies or the munchies.

This pizza was everything I wanted when it arrived. We'd been downing a couple of pints first at Sainte Adairius and then at Beer thirty, had made some new friends and pet some gorgeous dogs, and getting a huge pie with great sausage and pepperoni all over it, with crispy crust and dripping cheese, delivered right to our table on the patio was absolutely perfect.

The pizza here has always been pretty good, but I won't bother ordering online again. I ordered this time, asking for a 6:15 pick-up time, but after we drove all the way down from Scotts Valley and found a parking spot (not easy to do) and got into the restaurant, we were told that not only was our order not ready, they hadn't even started it, nor had they called to tell us there was a problem. We weren't going to wait another 45 minutes and went somewhere else instead. If I'm downtown already, I may eat here again, but I'll never order online again. It's very deceptive.

Pizza my heart? More like pizza my pocketbook for how often I come here! Love the little packaged salads after work, and the slices are just solid. Staff is super chill. This is a recently reno'd location too so plenty of space for all. Gets super packed on the weekends so I tend to stick here during the week.

We walked in on Sunday night and they had 12 different pizza's combinations under glass to choose from. I got the maui wowie ham and pineapple. The mrs. got the veggie everything. They take your slice at $4 a piece and serve it in a frisbee with their logo on it. The crust is incredible, hand tossed and crispy; NY style. Surfing motif with fun 70s photos. Check it out!

Went here on one of my days of with a group of friends. We work at a camp called camp Krem in boulder creek California. First thing I noticed was a sign on the establishment that said for six dollars you get a slice of pizza and a free T-shirt. I couldn't believe it, so I asked the cashier and sure enough. I got a t-shirt and a slice of pizza for six bucks. Long story short. I was much happier about my shirt. You do get a huge pizza slice, but honestly the crust tasted like cardboard. It was super dry. The toppings were plentiful so no regrets in that department.

Friday evening and there is one cashier and a huge line all the way out on pacific ave. Talked to the manager and his response was: we do not need another cashier. Maybe expanding was not the best idea if you're going to lose your customer focus. Or maybe new managers are needed who can step in and work when it is needed. Very sad.

What I liked: Love a by-the-slice place that actually has tasty pizza! Ranch dressing was good! Enjoyed a few additions from the spice bar. Fun atmosphere. What I didn't like: Nothing! Can't fault a place for being crowded (but yes, seating was a bit challenging.) Glad we went!

Of the two times I've had pizza from here, both where pretty good. One was during a birthday we went to pick up a whole pizza, sort of expensive but only because we got so many toppings on a whole pizza. The other time was after a movie when we went in for a slice. Fairly large slice, pretty cheap too. Got two from the pizza's available at the front where you order. Went out to eat at a bench outside, it was pretty delicious. In fact it might be the best pizza I've ever had. I'm not sure of the exact type we got, it might of been a combo, or deluxe or something like that but either way it was pretty good. If you're looking for quality pizza, from my experience I can tell you this is where you'll get it.

Best pizza in the Bay Area! This specific PMH branch tastes even better than any other I have been to. There was a long line at midnight which might be the only downside to coming here. If heaven was a pizza, the cheese slice from pizza my heart would be it.

Is every worker at every place in downtown Santa Cruz lazy, slacker, stoner kids who only care about getting high and don't give a crap about their job or their customers? Even the "manager" - don't bother registering a complaint to him, he couldn't care less and will do absolutely nothing about it (it would require him coming down off of his pot high and/or actually doing something in his job function, and neither one is a very likely possibility). I'm not even going to bother with the story of what happened; it's irrelevant because they don't care and will do nothing about it anyway. Just don't go here unless you really want to try their mediocre, over-priced pizza and don't care about things like service or food (or cleanliness, or accuracy, or...)

I've heard about this place for years...and seen their shirts on everyone under the sun...but never tried their pizza for myself until now. I tried a pepperoni and a chicken bacon slice. The pizza was pretty good, and the price was right. And of course, I couldn't resist a limited edition tee for just a few dollars more. I get a new shirt...they get yet more free advertising...win win right?

  • Zhenya T.

I love the new remodel! The pizza is always good. I love their pepperoni and their chicken and bacon one. I don't remember the name..but its really good. I promise! AND, if you really love your food and feeling lazy, you can order the food for delivery. Good for everything..even have rice crust. It takes a while for the food to come..but its understandable because they are extremely busy at the in store location..

  • Pat K.

Nothing against the people, everyone working was really nice and great service, the pizza was just terrible. It wasn't even really pizza - more like an open face sandwich. There was literally almost no sauce and just the cheese on dough with toppings. That may work for them and a lot of people may like it I just was not a fan at all. Didn't even finish one slice of the whole pizza I bothy.

The Place: is a bit crowded inside, so each time I visit Santa Cruz and stop by Pizza My Heart, I sit outside at the table area. It's got somewhat of a grid-iron enclosure that keeps you separated from the locals walking their dogs. Because. . . there are a LOT of dogs. Ha. It's in a great location. There are other restaurants, theaters and neat looking bars all along the street. It's also only a short walking distance from the boardwalk. The Service: is always fairly quick-- without compromising the quality of the pizza. The Food: LOVE THEIR PIZZA! The dough is always the perfect consistency, the cheese is a glorious, stringy mess and the peperoni is kind of spicy. I always make it a point to grab a slice each time I'm in town.

Always amazing. Every time!! The Santa Cruz Pizza My Heart is somehow better than all the rest. Pepperoni, Hawaiian, and Pesto are my favs here. The pizzas are made perfectly and all the herb toppings add that perfect extra flavor. Love!

  • Marlene C.

Pretty decent pizza, a little on the greasy side, but still good. They forgot about and burnt my pizza, making me wait only a few minutes more for my slice, but still gave me a coupon for a free slice! How sweet of them :)

  • Michelle C.

This is a pretty busy PMH location. I always see peeps walking in and out of here. That means slices of pizza are fairly fresh. Hardest part is finding a table to sit down at. Tons of people seem to know that there is a public bathroom here, so they are constantly going in and out of the bathrooms. Santa Cruz doesn't have a lot of public bathrooms. Overall, place was pretty good.

It's fast, won't break the bank and it's good. The Big Sur with the whole-garlic-thing is often mentioned, but they have some good other stuff too. Sadly the last time I went there I found the pizza too oily, but nothing that will stop me from eating there again. Cons: Depending on the time of the day you can waste a lot of time on the line and it's also not very spacious. Order to go and eat at home is my suggestion. Pizza can be very oily.

I had seen a lot of t-shirts when visiting Santa Cruz and decided to check it out. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the slow service ( the pizza was right in front of the dude and it must have taken ten minutes after I ordered to check out), the poor customer service and the lack of quality in the pizza and the price ($4.25 for a substandard piece of pizza that was nothing special). Also it is very crowded and loud and was difficult to find a place to sit. The pizza appeared to be sitting there a long time and did not taste fresh and was not at all appetizing or filling. I went back for a second slice to make sure it wasn't just that one slice as everyone raves about it. No, still not very good. But, like others the t-shirt deal ($6 with a slice) was too good to pass up, so I have the t-shirt to remember this place that I will never return to by.

UGH. I've changed my mind about this place after getting sick off their food the last two times I've been here---and I've only eaten here maybe 4 times? I'm not sure what's going on with this place--or hey maybe it's just me--but it's such a huge hit and miss. All my friends love this place and want to stop by for a slice before we leave downtown, but I avoid them like the plague. Get me sick once? Ok...stuff happens...Get me sick twice? I hate you forever.

We had a great time here, fed five kids and two adults for about $50, they gave us fisbees as plates and the kids were excited to take those back up to the city as souvenirs. The photos on the walls were a blast to look at and they have a self serve soda fountian from the future. The pizza was delicious and fresh when we came in. The staff was super friendly, will definitely come back here when I find myself hungry in downtown Santa Cruz.

I'm happy I finally got to check this place out! After reading lots of reviews and always hearing about it I finally stepped foot inside on a recent trip. I like the whole concept of being able to order pizza by the slice. I'd probably eat a lot more pizza if I was able to do that at most places. Often times there are different pizzas I wanna try but don't want to commit to a whole pizza in case I don't like it so I end up sticking to my usual. Here I don't have to! When we arrived there were about 5 different pizzas out to choose from. I asked the worker about them and he was very nice and explained all the ingredients in depth. I had a hard time choosing since they all looked so yummy so I told him to surprise me. He handed me a slice of his favorite which was the pesto pizza. It was really good! My kids had their cheese pizza and there were no complaints from them. We were there on a very busy evening and we were lucky the first booth was empty. When we sat down I realized why....the space to sit is so cramped it's a pita (pain in the ass) to get in and out. I have no idea who designed that spot but he was definitely smoking something!! Anyway, if you're in the area this place is worth checking out! Can't wait to go back and try out the other pizzas!

I hated this location prior to the remodel. Now, I love it. We have a big family and there is LOTS of seating. The pizza is yummy and filling and I love to get fresh veggies to go with it. I recommend starting the punch card, we got a lot of freebies quick! Park in free lot on front st. The lot is across from " I love sushi". Double doors into PMH right off that parking lot :-)

My kids requested we stop here while on vacation and I am so glad we did! They were super busy, but we were able to snag a nice table on the patio which was perfect for our fidgety little ones. The pizza itself was delicious, the atmosphere was upbeat and the staff was very attentive and friendly. Considering the amount of diners and the quality of the food, the wait was minimal. It was also a great deal! 4 drinks, a large pizza and 3 kids shirts for around $40! By far the best place we ate the entire week we were there. We can't wait to go back next year.

I attempted to buy a slice while working with a service dog in training. They refused to serve me...at all. I'm a long standing customer who's very disappointed in with this policy. I'd advise any dog friendly people to avoid this establishment.

Okay, updating to two stars after 3 follow-up visits. #1 follow-up: ordered a 14" take-out with onion, garlic and half bellpepper. The cashier was clearly having a bad day and made no attempt to hide it. Whatever. We walked around for 25 minutes, went back, grabbed our pie and were on our way. We got home and the pie was actually tasty. Nice balance of toppings. #2 follow-up: PMH was doing a fundraiser for a UCSC medical club so I decided to get a pie delivered. I ordered the same as last time, and waited 50 mins for it to be delivered. This time, they messed up the toppings (was supposed to be onion, garlic and half bellpepper, but they made it all bellpepper and half mushroom?). No biggie. It tasted ok. #3 follow-up: ordered delivery again. This time I called at 7 and asked for it to be delivered at 8:30, same toppings as before (I'm really not this boring, I swear). The pie was delivered a few minutes after 8:30 and the delivery driver was quite friendly despite the torrential downpour that night. Overall, I still think their hygiene practices need some work, and the pies are really hit(ish)-or-miss, but the last 3 experiences have been much more pleasant than the first couple so...

Customer service was worst I've ever seen. It's obvious they Don't care at all about providing any sort of good customer service and rely solely on their product and name. The serving staff don't even have enough courtesy to speak or look up when answering a question. Nor do they care to actually listen to the question being answered. Awful. Just awful.

OWNERS, I HOPE YOU READ THIS!! After our second visit to the newly renovated location we just walked out along with 3 other groups. Although there have been major improvements on the size of the restaurant, the service hindered. I was very disappointed during my last two visits to this location. Something needs to be done about the management. There were almost no pizzas both times when we came and when we were told 15 minutes on a pizza it turned to 30 minutes. I know this expansion puts more stress on the staff but they were not prepared to say the least. I love the staff at the 41st location and I could see that the pizza makers at Pacific are extremely slow in comparison and they have so much more room to work. The arguing between employees needs to stop. They are as rude to each other as they have been to customers. I know the location is new but I hope it gets fixed quick because you are losing business.

Great pizza, little greasy but it's pizza now. Love the crispy and chewy crust and the sauce. When a slice of Sbarro is priced the same , there is no comparison.

Actual rating: 3.5 I really want to give this place more stars... but really it's a pretty average Pizza my Heart location with standardized decor and same service. The room is medium in size, good for large groups, so that's a plus. The location is in downtown, so that's also a plus, although I expected it more toward the beach. Pizza are made (heat up/burned) when you come, so it's really freakin hot for me and I have to wait a few couple of minutes until I can enjoy it. Great for people who like really hot food, not so much for me who could care less about lukewarm pizza. I guess I equate pizza to sit-down-and-play-games-all-day thing. But at least the pizza here gets me out of the house and is definitely a great place for lunch or snacks, and has an upbeat vibe to it, makes you feel happy. The downtown area doesn't really have an upscale feel to it, and sometimes they do take a while to cook your pizza.... i mean seriously? I really prefer it less hot but twice as fast of service. At least the place is usually pretty clean and isn't too crowded.

This place is kind of an institution, and a very cheap place to grab a slice of pizza for lunch or dinner. I also really like their salads-- they're very fresh and not just standard iceberg or romaine, even though they come pre-packaged. The downside is that there's very little seating either inside or out, and your choices are limited to whatever they have available (though it's usually a pretty decent spread).

Everyone knows PMH has combos (pizza, salad, and a soda) and they're numbered 1-4 on the menu. Except this location has combos but no menu numbers for them. My friend ordered a #2 to which the rude bitch at the counter said, "Umm okay 2? Umm okay I don't know what that is" as she stood there with her thumb up her ass. My friend for some reason apologized (unnecessary, I though) and explained she'd like a combo. The girl said, "Umm okay because I have no idea what a 2 is" in a dumb ass tone. So I said to her "you're extremely rude" and she looked at me like I was rude. Sorry you hate your life and job and aren't helpful to polite customers who you are supposed to serve. Wish I got that chicks name to add to this review. An older man who was probably an owner/manager was folding shirts right next to her and didn't hear any of it. I'm sure if he had, her ugly self would've been disciplined about common courtesy.

Slow delivery, bad customer service. If you know your delivery service is going to be behind schedule try giving the customer a call to let them know, it goes a long way. Also baking the pizza and letting it sit in a warming cabinet or delivery bag for an hour and a half before it is delivered results in a lukewarm soggy pizza. Try timing the bake and delivery within the same time frame and use the 4 vents on the pizza box to release the steam!

Visiting Santa Cruz for business, and pizza is always easy to find. Night one...AWESOME! Yummy goodness. Warm, smothered with toppings and full of flavor. I really liked the different non-traditional toppings and had bacon, feta and broccoli. Delivery was about 30 minutes which was faster than the 45 minute time given from their site. The salad I ordered had tomatoes which I asked to be removed. I promptly received a call stating the salads were made each morning, so changes weren't possible, and would I like a different type. Changed it too the chicken walnut salad which was fabulous! Night two....meh...just so-so at best. I ordered another salad which arrived fresh...but without any plasticware, which is needed when the customer is in a hotel. Being on the road, it's harder to eat healthy, so I opted to eat the salad even though it was with my fingers. Icky mess. The breadsticks were part of tonight's order and looked great...but looks can be deceiving. What I believed were Italian spices consisted of a thick coating of black pepper. So much pepper it burned my mouth and cleared my sinuses. I am not a fan of pepper, and would never have thought it would be a primary ingredient for a breadstick topping. Now I know. Though night one delivery was prompt, tonight it took an hour. Not sure what the delay was. The pizza was cold and the toppings sparse. Where was my cheese? I ordered extra and couldn't find the normal amount. Bacon...about 10 crumbles on the whole pie. I ate one piece and threw the rest out. How is it possible that two nights back to back were so different? I'm not sure I will take the chance again given night two's experience.

I have not had Pizza My Heart in over 2 years. I use to be a huge fan...with 3 stamp cards all filled up waiting for my free drink, salad, and slice of pizza. I was ready for a free meal dammit. and then I went vegan. I tearfully *almost kind of* gave away my filled up stamp cards to my dear loved ones, and settled for a pizza free diet, until I found other restaurants that were able to make vegan friendly pizza. but my heart still yearns for pizza my heart. So you know what they did? To celebrate National Vegan week (which is Oct 24-31), they ordered Daiya Cheese to make vegan pizzas all week! Not gonna lie, I bought 2 large pizzas during that week and pigged out. Oh how I missed the melty gooey pizza. How I missed the thin crust and perfectly crunchy texture. How I missed their mushrooms piled high in layers. They charged the same price as their regular pizzas! They said that if the demand was high enough, they'd considered bringing back daiya cheese. I definitely told them that I'd be a regular customer if they did. 2 thumbs up for PMH for thinking about us vegans!!!

Seems to me since they have gotten bigger their quality has suffered. We went in for a couple of slices in Santa Cruz...tasted no better than a frozen pizza from a grocery store. The nostalgia of the place is why we gave it a second chance.

Yum Yum Yum. My 11 year old son ordered two pizzas the Mavricks for him and I ordered the Sand Dollar. The atmosphere of the place is awesome - and they are very helpful with trying to order and making sure you have all the extras you want. We took our pizzas back to our hotel - and we really enjoyed them and had enough of course to have for breakfast too. The restaurant is large and has the greatest stuff on the walls about surfing. We should have gotten shirts cause I'd advertise for these guys for sure!!!

  • Moxie L.

Wanna know how to piss these guys off? Order your pizza in a to-go box and eat it at one of their tables. It'll "break their little tree hugging hearts". Fucking queers are so anal about their cardboard, they whistle at their customers and demand them to take the box out of the trash can and hand it back to one of the workers so he can revive a tree with an oily ass pizza box. I felt embarrassed for the guy, how the fuck was he suppose to know that you aren't suppose to throw it away? And why the fuck is the customer sticking his arm down a dirty ass trash can to retrieve a 5 cent box? If you ask me, these guys aren't any better than Hitler... How the fuck do you demand one of your customers to take trash out of the trash can and glare at him throughout his whole lunch? Ain't everyone like your tree hugging ass! If it was me, I woulda thrown the pizza box at the worker's hedgehog lookin face. People only like this place because of their gay ass $2 shirts. Fuck their shirts, fuck their service, fuck their salty ass pizzas, fuck their tree hugging ass worker with his flakey ass spikey hair.. If you got balls, go into this Pizza My Heart wearing a hidden camera, order a to-go box and eat your food. Then throw away the box and record the worker's reaction. I on my own, I would not come to a pizza place in Santa Cruz...just because I do not have a pizza craving like my boyfriend's. Thankfully, he loves Pizza My Heart and so we always stop in whenever we're visiting Santa Cruz. Usually we've already eaten an overpriced meal somewhere else and we pick up a slice of PMH on the way back to our hotel. This past Saturday, we visited Santa Cruz and stopped at PMH for lunch, no prior meals eaten. The kiddies, the boyfriend and myself were all starving. We arrived at around 4PM, there was still a line...but tables were available. The boyfriend had a combo slice, me and the girls had slices of bacon and chicken...one t-shirt, three milks and one fountain soda came to a total of $23.00, AMAZING! Their thin crust pizza is always loaded with whatever toppings you've ordered...Pizza My Heart always satisfies that pizza craving (my boyfriend) or I am having.

Always great pizza, but could use more consistency on delivery orders. Flavor-wise, still the best pizza in town, especially if you like a thinner crust and creative, fresh ingredients. But I've noticed some things slipping over the last few months. A few times lately I've ordered things that are supposed to come with sauces or dressings -- breadsticks, wings, salads -- and the sauce has been left out of my order. I've tried double-checking with the driver only to be told that no one told him I had ordered a sauce. Sad, because the pesto ranch is one of the yummiest things around. And twice now they've delivered me a pizza that wasn't sliced. Not the end of the world, but odd, and it starts looking like they need to pay a little more attention to what they're putting out.

We LOVE Pizza My Heart. This was the first time we've been here since last summer and the remodeling made the difference. Last year we had to guess whether we can even get in the door given the previous location two doors down the same block. Now that they moved, there is so much more room for diners. We really appreciated both the speed and the quality of the pizza. The added touch of the two Coke Freestyle dispensers were nice. Keep up the great work!

    (5)
  • Darren W.

Like the remodel just fine. Although it does seem to have lost it's small-town appeal. Still the best pizza in town. However the music that they were just pumping was really obnoxious! Could hardly have a conversation. Thinking I liked it better when I was small.

Not the best pizza I've had, but I'm still a fan of Pizza My Heart. It's definitely a tourist spot that gets all the hype because it's located downtown in Santa Cruz.

    (3)

Great pizza! There is always many options including your basic pepperoni to specialty slices. The wait isn't too long and the prices are inexpensive. They also warm up your slices after you order.

So, my husband had never been to Pizza My Heart before and when we went here he liked it as soon as he walked in. The staff is just so friendly and they work very efficiently as a team. Our food was ready almost instantly and it was mouthwateringly elicious!

After a long day at the beach there are few things that hit the spot the way a slice of Pizza My Heart does. I've been coming here for as long as I can remember. You always know you are going to get a huge slice of delicious pizza for cheap. Everything they make is delicious, but the thing I like best about Pizza My Heart is the variety of their unique options. My favorites: Prima: tomato, olive, feta cheese Pesto: basil, garlic, walnuts, parmesan Fort Point: light tomato and pesto sauce with roma tomatoes, chicken, ricotta, sausage, artichoke, basil and herbs If you want to pick up a t-shirt while you are here, you can get a slice, drink, and a shirt for $5. The best thing about this location is that it is open late. If you are going out in downtown Santa Cruz, this is a great place to satisfy for your cravings for a late night bite. During the day it's a good spot to grab a slice and people watch on Pacific with friends.

Okay, I know Pizza My Heart is old with some people (crazies!) who feel like they've been everywhere, eaten every pizza, and done everything, "blah blah blah" snobs who never shut up-- but how cute is this place?? I love PMH! Growing up, I'd always seen people wearing their signature t-shirts and thought the name was so clever. I am a Northern California native and I've been to Santa Cruz and the Bay Area countless times, but never made my way over to Pizza My Heart until this weekend. They have locations throughout coastal NorCal, but I figured Santa Cruz would be a great first time to try it. My boyfriend and I, along with my best friend and her boyfriend, decided to stop at this location after a day at the beach. I didn't even anticipate buying more than a slice because everyone who'd been before me said they were the equivalent of eating two big slices. They were right. I was tempted to order the veggie slice because it looked great, but opted for the popular Big Sir instead because it was fresh from the oven. You can't go wrong with the Big Sir, especially if you're a roasted garlic fiend, like me! Plenty of veggies, not too much meat (and the meat wasn't greasy!), and just enough sauce. Mine actually had more garlic than meat, and I certainly didn't complain. Yeah, it's not the BEST pizza I've ever had, but the quality was great, selection was terrific, pricing was awesome, deals were bangin', and environment was fun. That's enough to make me a happy camper. The location is not far from the beach at all, and in downtown area with an awesome little book store directly across the (very narrow) street. Lots of college kids, the ever-present homeless, beach bums/skaters, hippies (we initially couldn't turn onto Pacific because of a group of protesters marching, with a band!), tourists, and normal everyday folk wandering around. The beauty of California! However, be advised: you're only allowed to park on the street for a maximum of 20 minutes, even if you refill the meter. We had time, but wound up taking some to go in order to spare ourselves the trouble. Another thing I really liked was that it wasn't anywhere near overpriced, which is great for an otherwise expensive city like SC. Average $3 for a (big) slice; and a great deal-- $6 gets you a shirt AND a slice. I thought the shirts would be close to $20 but it seems they mass produce them so they can spread the word about this cool pizza spot..? Not bad at all. They also have a selection of salads that's pretty good- Greek, Caesar, and a house salad. You can go wrong with getting the t-shirt + slice deal, sharing a Greek salad with your boyfriend, and an iced green tea with free refills! Everyone wins :)

We came here because our friend talked about this place so much. We were already in Santa Cruz anyway so we gave it a try. Maybe that's why my expectations were so high,he hyped it up. This place just serves average tasting pizza. However, their pizza and tshirt deal is pretty good. I got for myself. Also, maybe it was just the day I went but the line was sooo long. We waited forever to get pizza....... I don't like I would ever wait so long to get a slice of pizza when I can go to like Little Caesarsand get the Hot n' Ready.

I think I grab a slice here at least 4x a week. Can't go wrong with a cheap but quality slice of New York style floppy dough pizza. Big Sur's my favorite.

DIRTY PLACE TO EAT !!!! NO EXCELLENT SERVICE. Our first time to try Santa Cruz Pizza My heart. Our PIZZAS were VERY COLD, we didn't return our PIZZAs so they can warm them up, we were scared that they might spit on them. They don't wash their hands. Health issues. Not safe. You guys FAILED from Health Department. It will be reported. We will never go back to Santa Cruz Pizza My Heart, why is that...it's a DIRTY PLACE to eat in and out, disgusting place. Their workers in Santa Cruz aren't friendly and they don't smile. They don't ask you if you want to buy soda with that. They don't say thank you. So NO TIP for you guys, customer service is really bad. Customers are done eating but still doesn't want to leave the table while we stand by them with our pizza waiting for them to get up. It took them forever to get up because they are done talking not just because they seen us standing and waiting. Very mean customers also in that Pizza My heart Santa Cruz. I don't know if they are just racist, doesn't want to give up their seats and tables for us (who are not white like them). This is including their workers. They need to be train on how to do good customer service plus give us equal service like what you do with white people. We rather go to Capitola and Santa Clara..very clean place and friendly people and friendly atmosphere. I'm just hoping that owners of the Pizza My Heart can read all these reviews, this is how you can change the wrongs things.

Pizza My Heart used to be good, but they sold out and went mass produced franchise. They are even at the airport now. too bad - used to be great, now just ordinary.

This is the best Pizza My Heart out of the whole chain! The staff is really friendly, especially the cashiers. The pizza chefs are really good at what they do, the pizza here is very consistent, and the topping distribution is even. I'm satisfied every time I leave. Get the Big Sir or the Watsonville Apple, delish!

I still love their pizza and their pizzaioli. But I have to say I hate the new decor. Doesn't feel like I'm even in Santa Cruz anymore! Hy was it necessary to make it so hard and sterile and chrome? I miss the wooden booths. The new space and bathrooms are great though. The Big Sur is my favorite pizza! And I love their salads and pizza punch cards. So this review is more for the remodel of the Santa Cruz shop than the institute as a whole. I love Pizza My Heart!

Pizza My Heart, at least at this particular location, has become quite skimpy. And I have to say that there are a couple of people on the staff who are FAR too rude to be working at a pizza parlor... come on guy, lighten up. When I see some (obviously) privileged student screaming at a mentally ill man looking for leftover crust in the outside garbage, all that says to me is that he doesn't really need a tip. I think I decided that I like Rockers better, and they are cheaper, too.

Whenever I'm in the area and need a quick bite to eat I end up at Pizza My Heart. I always order a slice of their vegetable pizza as well as a slice of plain cheese pizza. It's delicious and very filling. The fresh pizza, fast service, and reasonable prices keep me coming back for more.

Overall, overpriced. This place is a crowd pleaser, as any place that serves pizza should be. Five to six people behind the counter and it still seems so complicated? Best thing is definitely the spice rack - so many spices!

I do love Pizza my Heart since the first time I've tried it last year in Santa Cruz. The amazing crust that's fresh, the cheese that's so moist and soft, the pepperoni that has that crunch and a tiny bit of oil in it.. I stop by for a slice everytime after I'm visiting the boardwalk because it just finishes the day so well. See you soon Pizza my heart, you've won a piece of mine!

I went here for lunch with my friend and my son last week. We stopped here for lunch after a day at the beach. It was my first time at Pizza My Heart. I liked the resturant. It was big and very clean. It looked like a great place to go with friends or family to have a slice and just hang out for awhile. The pizza slice was huge and the price was great. I really like the condiment bar as well and the staff was very friendly. My only gripe is that the pizza looked like it had been sitting out for awhile and when they put the pizza through the oven it was luke warm at best. When I want pizza I want it hot with the cheese melty and delicious and the pizza itself tasted plain no bold flavors stood out. I had a nice time at pizza my heart but I left feeling a little dissapointed with my experience there espically after hearing all kinds of wonderful reviews about it from friends and co workers. I think I would go back just to give it another shot.

Love this place! Best pizza, right up there with Amici's. This location is super chill, like most I've been too, but they get crazy long lines here, plus finding a table is basically mission impossible. I'll return on my next warm beach day or party night in the SC!!!

  • Mark S.

Twice now, my ordered pizza has had a "gourmet" taste to it. Their flavors are unique, and the crust is delicious, somewhere between thick and thin, crispy and chewy. Have never been inside; just did take-out. Got three different slices, and we passed them around the three of us in a surprisingly generous, "you gotta try this flavor!" mode. In the end, we kept our preferred flavor, but all were great.

So I was walking the streets of Santa Cruz, just checking out the sights and my tummy started growling. Then I remembered about this place and started looking for it. I passed it once and then turned around and found it (I know...dork). I was super excited because it was early Saturday and there was some seating available. They have indoor and outdoor seating and it is always fun to sit outside and watch the "sights" of Santa Cruz, because, you really never know what you will get. Can not go wrong with a slice of pesto, a greek salad or a seasonal salad (Spring Mix with Tomatoes & Mushrooms) and a nice ice tea to cool you off on a warm day. That and a t shirt! Five bucks for a slice and a shirt! Insane. Love this little slice of heaven.

Wanna get stale, vomit-inducing, ass-piss rendering pizza? By all means go here. I really wanted to like this place, as the girl I was dating at the time worshiped it. However, after I got sick BOTH of the times I ate there, I never returned, and not coincidentally, split with that nasty-pizza-loving-whore (to be pleasant about it). These people, for some ungodly reason, find it a good idea to leave these old, cold, stale pizzas out until some poor sap orders a slice. Then, they throw it in a warming over to dupe you into thinking it's a worthy slice. I'd rather lick the floor in that place than force another piece of their "pizza" into my face. (To be a true critic I will say this place has ONE thing going for it: selection. Their pizzas are not limited to cheese, pepperoni, and supreme. They have some funky toppings, but I've found more and more good pizza places have that, these days, so.....) "I wish I had four hands, so I could them [pizzas] four thumbs down."

Great pizza, awesome location, solid vibe. Pizza My Heart was started in Santa Cruz County at the Capitola Village location. This location, in Downtown Santa Cruz, is slightly bigger, and actually provides some area to sit and eat, both indoors and out. Since PMH is surf-themed, the local surf pictures, posters, etc at this location are awesome to look at while you have your slice. The pizza at all PMHs is the best that I've found so far, so you can't really go wrong. I'm partial to the pepperoni, but the cheese, Big Sur, pesto, and chicken and bacon are also especially good. They have a number of other tasty slices, including vegetarian options. Get a punch card when you go. You can use it every time you go in and 3 slices gets you a free drink, 3 more slices gets you a free salad, and 3 more slices gets you a free slice (you don't have to purchase them all at once... You can use the card every time you go in and just let your free stuff accumulate until you want it). Slices are a little expensive, but are also huge. It's worth it, hands down. Been coming here since I was little and don't intend to stop any time soon...at least, not while I'm in the area.

This is now a necessary stop after a day at the beach. If you notice, this little street houses a lot of restaurants, but not always establishments you feel comfortable going into with wet hair and sand shoes (it's a beach town, c'mon). But the people inside are all High School and College kids, surfers or old surf dudes so there you won't be judged. They are constantly making new pizzas every few minutes and they have a pretty good range of styles from "Big Sur" with mushrooms and garlic to "Rockaway" with BBQ and chicken. I love that there's prepackaged salads so you can make a complete meal , with a drink, in under $7! Love the hold surfboard decor too.

The Pizza here is not that great, although their deal, $5 for a slice of pizza and their signature shirt is a pretty good deal. Normally, one slice of their pizza is already around $3, so for another $2 you get a free t-shirt. Pretty legit right? And if you are around Santa Cruz, I'm pretty sure you have seen that Pizza-My-Heart t-shirt quite a few times. They have a lot of different varieties of Pizzas to choose from. I have tried the Pesto, Hawaiian, Garlic, Sausage, etc. The thing I like about their Pizzas is the thin-ish crust, but the flavor isn't that great. It tastes like a dominoes pizza pretty much, but more unique I guess. I liked the Pesto the most. It's a pretty small place, but they have outdoor seating as well, I love outdoor seating so that is a plus. Ambiance is okay as well. If you want that famous shirt then you should definitely just try this place out. $5 is a solid deal.

2.5, please I have been attending UCSC for more than 2 years now, and I think last night was my first time at Pizza My Heart. And I didn't come here on my own - I was supporting one of my friend's sororities. Let's get to the pizza part, it's mediocre. It's not great, in fact it's really oily. I ordered a combo pizza which was greasy, but my friend ordered a pepperoni pizza slice and it was just drenched in oil. So gross. The price is alright. For one large slice of pizza is around $3.75. Most people typically play $5 for a slice of pizza and a Pizza My Heart t-shirt. If you're in town on Tuesdays, I believe Rocker's Pizza (is that the correct name?) does pizza for like $1 or $2. And I'm pretty sure it's the same quality of pizza. &it's just like any other Pizza My Heart

    (2)
  • Raven B.

I had the Greek salad, but I forgot the dressing I chose. It was $3.75 and a decent size. They had a wide variety of salads depending on the price you wanted to pay and a lot of dressings which I thought was very convenient. My friend had the pepperoni pizza and said it was just "A-OK".

Meaty, Porto-Mushroom, Roast Garlic saved my life. How I ended up in Santa Cruz on a random Thursday morning is another story. Pizza is BOMB here. Cures any hangover and hits the spot after a long day at the beach..or a night out too. *wink*

I can't believe I have not reviewed this place yet on Yelp. Here goes... Today I biked on over to Pizza My Heart for a slice and a salad. I was pleased to see the line to get my grub was not nearly as long as it was during the summer, ya know with all the tourist. I order a slice with shrooms and peperoni and a garden salad. Like always they pulled the slice from a pre-made pie and tossed it into the oven. Usually I really enjoy my slice from here but today was different. My pizza was so soggy on the bottom that it was ALMOST to nasty for me to even eat. Me, not want to eat a slice of pizza? Yeah trust me it was bad. The toppings saved the slice just a bit with there freshness. The salads tend to always be pretty good and today was not a let down in that area. Service is always hit and miss. And the cleanliness of the eating area is always questionable. I will tell you one more thing though, I won't let this ONE bad trip to Pizza My Heart stop me from going back again and again.

Great pizza chain in the South Bay area. I remember coming here when I was younger, but I haven't been in years. My mom and I stopped in here for lunch. We each got a slice of pizza, shared a salad, and picked up 2 t-shirts all for only $20! The pizza is quite tasty, I really enjoyed the white sauce with chicken, mushroom, and bacon, I ended up getting a slice at the San Jose Airport too. This location is right in downtown Santa Cruz, and the people are all really nice, if not a bit spacey. Coming from a big city, I have to realize that a "small coastal town" runs a little different than I am used to. Overall though it's a great place to grab a slice of pizza for lunch, with the super cheap t-shirts for advertising.

3 stars for the pizza, -2 for the horrible service. Order placed: 7PM on a Sunday. Hadn't arrived by 8:15, called to ask where it was. "10 minutes away." At 9:00PM it still hadn't shown. Called again. Still "10 minutes away." Lady on the phone was terse and unapologetic. The only saving grace was she promised to refund the pizza after I requested one, who knows if it will actually arrive or whether they're taking it back. I guess I'm going hungry this evening. We shall also see if I actually get the refund. I somehow think I'll need to contact my credit card company. EDIT: Pizza arrived at 9:24PM, a full 2 and a half hours after the original order. I sent the pizza away, as I scrounged together the remnants of what was in the cupboard for a sort-of dinner.

Pizza My Heart is my all time favorite pizza - and I consider myself a pizza specialist. Like Melanie B., I never visit SC without stopping to get a slice of pepperoni & mushroom. The slices are big and cheap. The $5 tshirt and slice deal is awesome - I have several of their summer shirts! The thin crust is perfectly crispy and the toppings are all delicious. The Capitola location is also money.

I'LL SAY COME ON, COME ON, COME ON, COME ON, YEAH TAKE IT! TAKE ANOTHER LITTLE PIZZA MY HEART NOW BABY! Love this place! After my airport experience, got into Santa Cruz later than expected. My friend Deb was ready to hit the downtown but I was hungry. After looking at the taqueria, which she told me was not very good, she suggested this place. D: Remember the one in Los Gatos and every other word out of your mouth was 'fuck'? Me: NO...did I do THAT? D: Yep, I think Wolf counted like 25 during the conversation. Me: Well, I was drunk...and when you're around kids and you can't do it, might as well get it all out. This place serves thin crust slices and whole pies. I settle for a pepperoni and the Maui Wowwie. Both were pretty tasty...or I was really hungry...seriously, tasty. I wanted to get another but the line was too long. All kine peeps coming in, which made this visit even better. My only complaint is that there wasn't enough workers to clean the tables. I would definitely stop back by again.

Cheap and delicious, just how I like it. Every freshman at UCSC goes to Pizza My Heart and get's the t shirt deal. You can tell because the next week, everyone in your dorm is wearing the Pizza My Heart shirt to sleep or to the gym. My favorite is the mushroom, but if I'm feeling fancy I go for the Deluxe. I think it's now called plain old Chicken and Bacon. It's really good and probably really bad for you. Their thin crust and huge slices are what bring me back everytime. Get a stamp card and get a stamp card everytime. It's not hard to fill them up and for every three slices you get something for free. Oh and they have the best Chinese chicken salad in Santa Cruz. Swear. It's really good. Seating is hard to find though, so be prepared to hover over tables.

I'm going to be such a hater right now but Ooo well!! I usually really don't mind Pizza My Heart in Capitola & San Jose but this location doesn't make my happy. Went yesterday with my sister & the guy serving had the worst face on & was obviously hating life or his job or something because he was rude. I know you serve pizza by the slice but damn....crack a smile!! I asked for another kind of pizza (that wasn't on the counter) & the guys said (pointing to the pizzas on the counter) "This is ALL we sell." Um, no...but okay. And to top it off my pizza was gross! Right?! Believe it or not this may have been the one & only time a pizza slice was bad here...It was sloppy...really that's the only way to describe it. Falling all over the table sloppy. Eww!!!!! And I'm really not a fan of cracker thin crust. IDK dude....I didn't have a good experience this time. =(

Food was not what I expected. Ive heard alot of hype and the quality was not as good as I thought. Also the girl serving us was very rude! Not a good experience and I wont be back!

Awesome, just awesome!! Hands down, the best pizza I've had in Santa Cruz, great folks all around too! Viva lå Pizza My Heart! I'm always wondering if anyone will beat it, but so far, I've yet to eat any better pizza in or around town here... Also: I love that I can use online ordering from their web site, which clicks thru to GetQuck web ordering system, where it's actually fairly cool, it works simply, and I can save my favorite orders, give detailed directions on how to find my home, and order and special side orders, etc... , so I don't ever have to do it again. That rocks! Saved meal, click, order again, click!

Yay! I'm a fan. It's not quite deserving of 5 stars as it's not the best pizza I have ever had. It was, after a day at the beach and boardwalk a welcome meal. On the positive side, the service was fast and friendly. Also, the pizza slices (I got to try most of the varieties - I was hungry!:) were hot with good topping quality and spread. The taste was good but not excellent. Also got a T-shirt as I'm not sure when I'll next be back. There were no real negatives - the only ding could be when I came back to order another slice they didn't have any as it was still in the oven. This was the case with almost all the varieties which isn't good as they should be stocked up to keep the lines moving. They should know how much they need of each!

  • Christina P.

Yumm! For those of you who don't know how PMH works here is the low down. Some of the pizzas are premade. You walk in and tell them which one you're craving and they throw it on the oven for you. Your pizza comes out hot, crispy, and delicious. Pizzas can also be made to order. They have classics premade: pepperoni, pep and sausage, combo, and Hawaiian. They normally have others also, I dont know if it varies by location. This joint on Pacific Ave. is nice b.c they have outdoor seating also. So you can grub on your pizza and watch the late night hustle and bustle of good ol' Santa Cruz!

Not all pizzas are created the same way. In different regions you will find the same foods prepared a little differently. Some good, some gross and some awsome, like Pizza my Heart! You get a slice bigger than your face, the selections seem never ending, and the prices are just right. Especially for the tourist looking for an inexpensive meal or the college crowd. I go to this place everytime I'm in Santa Cruz and I've never been disappointed. Sometimes I wish this pizza stop would come to Fresno, but then all the other pizza places would die from jelousy and my waist size would gradually trump the circumference of the equator.

.Came here a couple of times and always satisfied with their pizzas. They give a good portion for under $5. I came here a couple of days ago after stopping by the antique fair (which btdubs was awesomee), and had a tomato onion pizza while my boyfriend got the pepporoni and sausage pizza. We got a medium drink and the total price of the order was about $9. Which isn't bad at all considering one slice of pizza filled me up more than I had expected it to (because I usually eat A LOT). I tasted my boyfriend's pepporoni and sausage pizza after having a bite of my own and it was a lot more tasty because it had meat on it. Mine was just fresh and plain, I just got it because I love tomato. But next time I would definately get something with pepporoni and/or sausage in it. You can also request them to make you one of their specials, or choose your own toppings but it's a longer wait as opposed to just picking the slices that are ready in front of you (they do warm it up, takes like 5 minutes). They also have all kinds of condiments like tapatio, basil herbs, parmesan cheese, tobasco sauce, etc. The ranch however cost extra. As broke college students, I think this is a great place to have lunch or even a small dinner because it's delicious quality pizza that fits within the budget!

  • John H.

Wow, while I've been to many Pizza My Heart locations, I had a perfectly cooked slice here the other day. Perfectly heated with a crunchy bottom crust all the way to the tip. I've gotta hand it to these guys, they've gotten better and better over the years. However, quality can still vary quite a bit between locations and the particular guy 're-heating' the slices.

I ordered the deluxe chicken bacon pizza was horrible horrible pizza....... The crust was so tough and chewy you could hardly bite through it.... Then I am not sure what sort of bacon was on this pizza but when I would get one it was like chewing on rubberbands..... Grouse Pizza I used to like pizza my heart now I must saw Rocker Pizza is much better I hope the owner is reading these Yelps as it is sad to see our long time local pizza going down hill

The lady at our great hotel (super 8East) told us about this place because I told her my bad experience at Kiantis last time we tried that place (service there was Terrible). So you order at the counter, we got 1 slice and a salad. I left happy! Pizza is GREAT!!' we even ordered at the hotel pool the next day!!!!! They delivered. I will remember that place!

What the I have never written a review for PMH!!!! Atrocious! Go there, eat there, buy a t-shirt. That's it folks. I would prefer not to tell you what pizza to get because they are all great. if you want to know what I get if I have to pick only two slices for myself: Big Sur and the Primo. Ok nuff said folks...Enjoy and I always stop at PMH if I am in the area. Wish they would open one in LA.

I love the clam and garlic pizza here. Great late night Santa Cruz spot.

    (4)
  • Katrina G.

Will definitely revisit this place! I ordered the salad, drink and pizza slice combo. The pizza was called Big Sur and it had the elements of a combo pizza but with an added ingredient of roasted garlic cloves. Deelish!

  • Michelle A.

Salads! Don't forget their great, pre-made salads! Great for grab, on-the-go salads that are fresh - fantastic variety to choose from! Their dressings are delicious as well. People are super friendly and place has a nice vibe.

My favorite Pizza in the Bay Area. I am not alone in this, as you will see long lines at times to get into this Santa Cruz/Capitola institution. I suggest the Sunset Beach and the Mavericks, but it's best when you ask for extra cheese....

    (5)
  • Tommy N.

Love this place. I would come here for lunch while taking a break from work. Their pizza slices are perfect but could be cut evenly sometimes. My slices are way too small sometimes and its not really worth what I paid for. But the quality of the pizza will compensate for that poorly cut slice.

    (4)
  • Swapna M.

OMG. I love love love this place. I used to eat here ALLLL the time when I went to college in Santa Cruz. .... and whenever I'm back in the Bay Area.... I make a stop over in Santa Cruz for their delicious pizza. I ALWAYS get the pepperoni. ALWAYS. I love that the crust is so thin and that they put your slice in the oven after you order and serve it to you piping hot. Cant go wrong!! Its just the yummiest.

  • Paul L.

As a former New Yorker, I can say with some authority that this place has great New-York-style pizza: good crust with the right "chew" and flavorful sauce. The plain cheese is perfection: you don't really even need other toppings. Whenever I'm in Santa Cruz, I try to swing by and grab a slice.

The thing I've found about pizza places is that the quality really depends on the cook of the week. In other words most of these places seemingly have a high turn over of kitchen staff, and it must be nearly impossible for even a small chain to keep tabs on the quality of pizza going out their doors. Well Pizza My Heart seems to fall into that type of place depending on when you decide to show up and who is making your pizza that day. I've had some ok days there, but lately it's been going downhill fast. The last time my pizza was poorly assembled, ingredients were not balanced, and the crust/doe was so soggy it made the pizza mostly inedible. I was in a rush and starved but still could only finish half of it before I started to feel sick from this goopy, soggy doe that was not even fully cooked. This is probably too generous, but I give them a star for quick service, one more for late hours in downtown, but three stars knocked off for the current pizza maker. I won't be back considering the many other pizza choices in Santa Cruz.

Great pizza don't plan to eat in -- it's a too go place with very few seats. We were starving, had our kids with us. We waiting for a squished in table. Pizza was good.....

This is my favorite pizza joint, hands down. I miss it. I grew up eating this pizza, and will die with it being my favorite. Personally I like both the clam pizza and mushroom pizza. This is the joint where I learned about pesto when in high school. The decor is very fitting for the area. The staff are standard Santa Cruzians. The prices are great (get the special slice and t-shirt for a great deal). The location is ideal. The smell is mesmerizing. What else can I say. If you like a nice slice on thin crust (there shouldn't be any other way), then this is the place for you. I've only been to this one and the one in Capitola. Both are equal. I wish there was one in PDX. Oh well. I'll be back in Santa Cruz one day soon.

I've seen shirts for this place for years and finally tried it this past week. I had to try the cheese slice of pizza. If a pizza place can't get that right, how can I trust their other varieties? That was one solid slice of pizza. Good size, good taste, good deal The cheese reminded me of those elementary school pizzas. Pizza day! I like the "branding" of their cheese slices - the tomato sauce stripes. The restaurant is nice enough, nothing to write home about. Friendly staff, decently clean booths. Good location downtown.

    (4)
  • Dennis S.

great pizza. I love the by the slice attitude. It reminds me of my Humboldt days where every pizza shop operate in the same manner. The only problem was that my pizza's crust was burned, which was kinda shitty because I love the crust. All in all, amazing pizza.

  • Erika G.

DELISH! I needed a carb boost and was in search of pizza on Pacific Avenue and TaDa! I got a Super Veggie slice (olives, onion, mushroom, artichoke hearts) and Pesto slice. It's already made and sitting there and they heat it up for you making the pizza bone crunchy (my favorite part!) The Super Veggie was pretty tasty - the artichoke hearts were either brinded or flavored already and it was really good. The Pesto wasn't too oily and had a great garlic flavor - which I ate cold because I was driving to another spot. All for $7 something. Nice service, happy workers and laughing customers - nice place and I will definetly stop in again when I need a carb fix!

Great pizza. Always fresh and consistently good. Had the chicken bacon pizza today (as usual) which was fresh out of the oven. My daughter had pepperoni and sausage which was also great. She ate the whole slice which is saying a lot for her. Keep up the great work!

I LOVE PIZZA MY HEART, therefore I'm going to give it a piece of my heart through this review. A shirt and a big slice of pizza for only 5 bucks!! Come on what more can you ask for? Delicious thin crust pizza that crunches in your mouth! Sure it might be greasy but it savors in your mouth, and the pepperonis are slightly over-cooked so you get a lil crunch from that too! Oh man, I wish I lived in Nor Cal to eat this pizza one more time! Just go and try it for yourself, I mean you get a shirt out of it.

Nothing comes closer to 'New York thin slice' than Pizza My Heart. The crust is thin, but not soggy. The sauce is dense, but not overwhelming. The ambiance is cool, but not too cool for school. And the price is just right. Whether you're in Santa Cruz, Capitola, Los Gatos, or Campbell, CA, find your way to a Pizza My Heart. I recommend a slice of cheese pizza plus a slice of your choosing. The veggie as well as the pepperoni + mushroom are excellent BTW. Side note: Check to see if the slice-plus-tee promo is still on. The t-shirt is great for lazy Saturdays.

  • Adam S.

Santa Cruz is not really a big pizza town. When I lived there, this was THE place to get a slice. The sauce is above average and the service is usually pretty good. They have a great selection of condiments including El Yucateco Habenero hot sauce. Ranch is always free. If you are ordering a whole pie, I suggest the "Lex." Party tip: Go see a movie next door at the Del Mar Theater or pick up some records and books at Logo's across the street.

Went there Saturday night between 9 & 10...Wow there was a line... It was my first time! Pizza was awesome...The best! I gave 3 stars because of the service... It was service with NO SMILES! maybe the employees are just tired but it still NO EXCUSE. Good customer relation is a big deal in a business... The product an establishment sells might not be the best but with good service, people will still come back. Well in this case I am still coming back because of the food but do hope the owner will point out to the employees the importance of customer service.

Thee BEST pizza downtown, hands-down. I love their slice/salad/soda combo, although its about nine bucks if you get the best salads. While I usually head over to Upper Crust on the West Side, or Engfer's in Seabright, I've got a special place in my heart for this pizza.

    (4)
  • Ruthie O.

Absolutely delicious! My family had never tried it, but as soon as each person took a bite, their eyes lit up. Everyone said that pizza was very flavorful. Even a hardcore meat lover would enjoy the vegetarian options. I'm from Kansas, and was just visiting Santa Cruz for a family reunion, so if you're visiting as well, I highly recommend you try this before you leave for home. So good!

  • Danica F.

I'm a fan of the thin crust pizza more than any other kind. I feel like you can taste what's on the pie better that way. Considering the slice size they give you, $3-4/slice wasn't that bad at all. I remember there used be a clam, garlic type buy I haven't seen one at a pmh in a while. I wish there was though. I usually order the mushroom or mushroom with pepperoni (the pepperoni is mini size!) And each time I think I need two slices, but I end up only needing one to get full. Always a good place to go to if you want a quick filling bite.

When I was a teen, in the early 1980s, this was the best pizza ever. They were located on Soquel Ave between Pacific Ave & Front Street in a old build lost to the earthquake (what is now ugly Borders Books). Back then the pizza was amazing--really better than any pizza I have ever had or probably will ever have. The original owners sold it to a San Jose Valley dude and he has made it into a chain. The other night, I was craving the old Pizza My Heart taste, so I ordered a cheese pie. It was unedible, even my 3-year-old didn't eat more than one bit and she loves pizza. I would give them minus stars but Yelp not allowing minus stars yet. Wouldn't have thought that Pizza My Heart would go from the best pizza ever made to the beyond the worst fake stale pie on the planet. I hope the original owners (Fred Poulos and Keith Holtaway) did not give their right way to open another pizza place in Santa Cruz when they sold the place--we need them back or at least for them to share their pizza making skills to some young people. Fred and Keith please save us--give Santa Cruz great pizza again. Update: I found that Fred has opened 2 pizza places--Sebastopol and Santa Rosa. He even uses the same artist that did all the original Pizza My Heart art. If you miss the good Pizza My Heart then go to Mombos Pizza on your next road trip North get a taste of what Santa Cruz use to have. mombospizza.com/index.ph…

I like this place quite a bit. It's a little spendy, but I'm still willing to shell out the money. 6.50 for two slices. I really like the plain cheese pizza. Wish they had beer though.

Arguably the best in town, they make only thin crust no Sicilian so they are not close to the east coast but it's all I got out here that reminds me of Jersey. Good menu and fresh toppings

Thanks to our road trip, my friends and I found ourselves in Santa Cruz at 11 PM on a weekday with no other restaurants open. Hungry, tired, and cranky, our options looked pretty slim and the local Taco Bell looked increasingly appealing. Thankfully, we were recommended Pizza My Heart by a local, and our little foray turned out to be one of the best pizza experiences ever. Let me first start by saying it was open when nothing else was - Major plus. Secondly, the pizza was very fairly priced and the slices were to die for. Two will easily fill you up - Neat. Thirdly, they had coke in a bottle with real sugar - Awesome. Fourthly, they had a huge shelf full of unique and interesting condiments - Score. When you bite into this pizza, the taste is sensational. Forget everything you've ever tasted before; this will absolutely top it. Moreover, the service was excellent. My friend's pizza turned out a little singed/dry being too long in the oven, and they gave him a fresh slice on the house when a new pizza was baked. That's service right there. Altogether, I must say, Pizza My Heart is all you need for a down-to-earth, satisfying, and hearty (pun totally intended) meal.

    (5)
  • Hannah K.

The service is reliable, nothing fancy, so don't expect too much. The pizza is huge, thin crusted, and pretty good. The general atmosphere of the pizza shop is clean and 'quaintly' decorated. If you like the pizza and you want a cheap t-shirt souvenir from SC, they have a t-shirt and slice deal for 5-6$.

I love there pizza! My 3 favorite slices in this order are, Pesto, Prima(Tomato, olive and feta with traditional red sauce) and also the Cheese pizza is to die for. Btw, i don't know if they add extra crack to there ranch, but holy $h!t, it's so f'ing amazing, best pizza dipping sauce ever!!!! There salads are also superb, The Chicken Cesar and the Chinese Chicken are amazing. Btw, if you corporate pizza my heart guys are reading this, what happened to the pine nuts in the pesto??? I miss them... It's still the bomb, but man those pine nuts were where it was at.

I love pizza my heart but you failed me the other night. We always order the same thing.. It pops up w/ our number, so how Did you get it wrong? :( Its always D'Lex Chicken & Bacon, the Largest size you have. with extra extra extra ranch. So how is it when we ordered that and breadsticks - we only get one ranch to share among 5 of us? You didn't even bring us marinara sauce either. Just one. One small ranch for 5 of us to fight over. And no, my costco sized Hidden Valley ranch just won't do compared to the Ranch you guys have. Your pizza may be a little more pricey, but I love it and of course I will call you again. Just please don't forget my bucket of ranch.

  • Brandon T.

I have had better pizza in my days but this is pretty okay. If i see a homeless guy hanging outside I usually go and bring the guy a slice because it is not that expensive and it has to be torture smelling the pizza cook all day and not get to have anyway. Regardless this place has a mean pepperoni pizza and you know it is good when the grease is so thick you could eat it with a spoon. My only gripe with this place is the lack of seating and the long lines.....which are also good signs this place has good food.

Pizza My Heart saved our butts the other night when we found ourselves dinner-less in Santa Cruz. Being on a little get-away from the City, we were forgetting the fact that we were in a small town whose restaurants apparently close at 9pm. While we scrambled to find food on the pier, we called Pizza My Heart as a backup plan and ordered up a Surfer Joe's Special consisting of sausage, spinach, garlic, mushrooms (which we swapped out for sun dried tomatoes) and onions. Thin crust, big, fairly pricey, but delicious. They saved us from certain starvation and the pizza was very good. Not amazing, but damn good. I'd eat it again. But what the hell is up with that name?

Be still my heart - YUMMY PIZZA! The best sourdough crust by far and amazing flavors from their garlic clove pizza to clams :-) Ok - you lose 1 star though PMH because really pizza is no fun to eat where there is no beer :-(

This place gave me the worst food poisoning of my life! After taking down two combo slices on a weekday evening, I immediately felt that stomach tinge and subtle harbinger of the evil that would descend upon my digestive system later that evening. Both ends, people- both ends! I spent the better half of that week with leftover bits of sausage and mushroom in my sinuses. Never again, please God, never again!

The people that work there are Rude and aggressive. One of the employees yelled and threatened us for going to the register before ordering with him when we couldn't because he was busy yelling at the guy in front of us. Left. Will never go back.

Pizza My Heart SC is awesome and that's that! The service is pretty quick, the pizza is always awesome, and the employees are friendly. For a quick stop to get a slice of pizza this is the place. Annnnd it's a lot better then Woodstocks. I love the 20 or so different spice selections [everything from curry powder to oregano], which is pretty fun. Also, they have a sweet discount card deal that will get you a stamp for each slice, just ask the cashier about it!

  • Kenny L.

its just like any other pizza my hear that's in san jose. their service is ok. it's NOT slow during lunch times though. so many locals come here for lunch that the line goes out the damn door. their slices are HUGE, but thin. and crust us eat-able unlike the damn costco pizza crusts. i'm a fan of their pizza, well atleast no complaints so far. but their salads suck. but hey cant beat the $5 slice plus a t-shirt deal.

Stopped in here for a late lunch- I've eaten their pizza at the San Mateo location and liked it. The crust on this particular location was a little too "crackery" for me though the toppings were plentiful. The place was clean, the service friendly. A steady line of customers while we were there.

I came here for a friend's birthday after a day at the boardwalk. It was around 10pm and it was pretty crowded! Luckily two groups left soon after we arrived so we were able to take their booths :) They're a bit small and kinda difficult/annoying to get into :/ Our group ordered one 18" Big Sur pizza. Since we ordered a full pizza, it took about 15-20 minutes for us to get it. We split between 12 people which meant the slices were a bit smaller so one wasn't enough for most of us. We each ended up ordering another slice which meant I got to try more of the pizzas! :D They have a bunch of slices already made so if you order by the slice, you can get your food quickly. They toast it in the oven before giving it to you :) These are the pizzas I tried: BIG SUR: YUMM GARLIC. I ate a whole clove of roasted garlic and it was awesome. I loved the green onions too! This pizza is a must try and I can see why it won so many awards. FIGGY PIGGY: Figs + bacon + feta cheese?! Interesting combo and DELICIOUS! The figs had the right amount of sweetness to go with the bacon. So glad we tried this! Definitely a unique combo and worth trying. PESTO: I love pesto! There's no toppings on the plain pesto pizza slice but it was still super delicious. If you get a slice and a t-shirt, it only costs $6 which is only $2 more than a slice! There were two summer editions of the shirts here but they ran out of my size so I just got the original one :( Still a good deal though!

    (4)
  • Luc L.

Pizza by the slice + a shirt for $6 or $7!! Tried the Big Sur, very flavorful. Similar to a combo pizza but with garlic. The only thing I did not like about the pizza is the cloves of garlic, there is a lot garlic loaded on the slice. I tend to enjoy the flavor of garlic but not by the clove...a little too much for me. It is disguised like a piece of meat on the slice.

So disappointing... We were in Santa Cruz last night, we wanted something good to eat and the first thing I thought of was Pizza My Heart. We were near downtown so we decided to stop in. Being Saturday night it was somewhat busy inside...there was not one place to sit. We walked in and the girl at the front counter looked at us and said "Hi. If you don't see the pizza you want in front of you it's gonna be 10 minutes.' Well, hello nice to see you too. I asked her what pizzas would be coming out in 10 minutes and she told me "I have no idea" with an attitude. As she finished saying that one of her coworkers behind her named off three or four different kinds of pizza that were coming out and she commented back to him "Oh yeah, I know". Really? Just a second ago you told us you had no idea. We told her we would wait a few minutes to see what kind of pizza came out and she just told us that we could pay to the left and wait for it to come out. But...wait, we still don't know whats coming out. It was very confusing and we ended up just leaving because of her attitude. She's probably not representative of the whole company but when someone who is the first person you see in a business has that crappy of an attitude it sure sucks. We ended up going to the Capitola location and had a much better experience.

Ordered & paid online _1.75 hrs_ before delivery. Online system said to expect 45 min from order to delivery. Still no pizza. Called them- "just out of oven" "we're quoting 1.5 hr delivery times". "Online system is never right". No offer of discount. Boo hiss. So hungry we were not hungry anymore. Tucked in: Great, the pizza was COLD.

I don't consider myself a "pizza person" but this place gets me every time. Much love for this one. I love the Deluxe pizza and how you can basically powder it with any flavor spice you want. They even have curry powder - I know what you're thinking who the hell uses that on pizza? Try it, it's pretty awesome. Yeah, I'm that girl... YUM

One of my favorite places to get pizza I remember the first slice I had from here when I was about 8 years old and fell in love. The chicken bacon is one of the best in my opinion but you can't go wrong with anything here especially the classics like cheese and pepperoni. The pre packed salads are also very good.

Bad. Bad pizza. We are great pizza lovers and it's rare I meet a pizza that I don't like....but this pizza flunks! We are always inclined to support local independent businesses. We like hand made unprocessed type food. So we tried pizza my heart...actually we've given it three chances now (this last was the worst) and will never order it again. The sauce has no flavor, skimpy toppings and the worst was the crust....tough, stale tasting flavorless. We also got the "breadsticks" which are just another tough stale pizza crust. These came w cold pizza sauce. Bleck. Total spent:$40 for 2 pizzas and breadsticks Save your money. You're better off with costco pizza.

The line to this place was out the door !! My boyfriend had the pepperoni and supreme and said it was awesome. I had the Hawaiian and it was ok. Would def come back and maybe just not get Hawaiian next time. TVs everywhere to watch sports was a plus !

Local youth hangout. Lots of teens and kids. Great local history on the walls. Fun atmosphere with friendly staff. Pizza is if the NY style. Thin crust. You can get a slice of pizza and a pmh tshirt for 6 bucks. A great place to take the family. Salads are in terrible packaging but are delicious,

They have good pizza. The crust is thinnish but crunchy. The sauce and toppings always taste very fresh and the ranch is great.

Our first night in our new home in Santa Cruz, but we didn't feel comfortable leaving our pets home alone. I pulled up Yelp to search out pizza delivery and found Pizza My Heart. The pizzas all sounded somewhat exotic (this certainly isn't Chicago-style sausage and cheese pizza!), and we were game for some adventure. We ordered the Fort Point pizza - it was fantastic! Unfortunately, the delivery took over an hour - according to the man on the phone, they were way backed up and he apologized for the delay. An apology goes a long way, so kudos for that.

This place has the best slices of pizza ever!!! Love everything they offer especially their Watsonville: green apples, sausage, bacon, pepperoni and Gorgonzola!!!

Not bad. Simple collection and when you're hungry it is going to hit the spot. Liked the setup inside. It was clean and welcoming. The line moved a bit slow so the pizza was starting to cool while it sat waiting on the counter until we got to the checkout counter. I wish I could customize my veggie pizza - I really do like me some pineapple on my pizza! :)

I am a regular here. I love the pizza and the staff are very kind. It's cool how you get free soda, free salad and free slice for the amount of stamps on Frequent Muncher Card. Very reasonable prices. Great place to stop by for lunch or dinner. I tell everyone this is one the best pizza parlors in town.

Came here while visiting a friend in Santa Cruz for a fast lunch. The boy really wanted to try this place and my friend happens to love it, so here is where we ended up. I suppose I was expecting a lot more from Pizza my Heart. Let's just say it didn't steal my heart. I got the pizza with chicken and bacon, which was extremely salty and rich. It was good, but not a huge impressive. Sadly I can't say that I got to try any other slices because my whole group decided on the same time! I hate when that happens. I really wanted to try the pizza with figs and prosicutto but it was not being sold as slices. Sadness. The prices here really can't be beat. You can get a T-shirt plus a pizza slice for only 6 bucks. Good advertising on their part! It was a fast lunch, and the food was decent, but I can't say this would be my first choice if I was back in SC.

I love pizza, and I love Pizza My Heart. I've been to many places that use the by-the-slice method, and I actually prefer it. What I love about Pizza My Heart, however, is the variety of flavors they have available outside the typical cheese/pepperoni/combo that most other places have. I got a slice of the pesto, and my only regret about that order was that it wasn't a Thursday, when I would have gotten the Figgy Piggy instead. I also tend to shy away from packaged salads in restaurants, but on my mom's suggestion, we got the Chicken Walnut one...and it was a great decision. The chicken was flavorful, the greens fresh, and the dressing was thick without seeming to overpower the dish. We did only use about 3/4 of the cup though, so maybe that was why. Included huge chunks of gorgonzola and lots of candied walnuts, as well. The service was speedy, and when they were out of the pizza my mom ordered (one was in the oven) we quickly paid and they brought it to our table when it was ready. Lots of seating available. I'll definitely be back when I'm in town.

Good Pizza, Bad Service, Skip It! Short line, but the cute young women working the counter were too busy snarking at each other to provide food service. When I finally ordered my slice, it went in the oven, and then sat on the counter FOREVER, getting cold. The gal at the register invited a large party to cut the line in front of me, to place an order for "To Go" pizza. Meanwhile I started to debate asking them to reheat my lonely slice. After helping the large party with their order, and drinks, one of them also decided to get a T-shirt. As she paid for it, I politely asked if I could have my pizza, and was told in a very unfriendly way that I could have it after she got the T-shirt. Since when does a T-shirt get cold? Especially when they had cut the line to begin with?! I hope I never go back, or if I eventually do, they have learned something about food SERVICE.

This is exactly what I want in a slice of pizza. I loved the flavor, loved the quick walk-up and order style, loved the surfer themed decor. I loved watching the man tossing pizza dough into the air. I loved the many fun toppings they had to shake onto my slice. I had mine fire dept HOT. Really love the shark repellant sauce! I got the pizza and T-shirt for 6 bucks. What a deal. If they put one in Huntington Beach...I'd be in trouble. This will always be a stop for me when in the area. DELICIOUS, laid back...and yes - appropriately named.

2.5 stars: Not the best pizza my heart i've been to: no tshirt sizes, room temperature pizza, long lines, delicate pizza that falls apart, not filling Long line but it did move fairly fast. The lady putting the orders in was horrible. Not only did she almost burn herself a few times handling the pizzas from the oven, she seemed like she only wanted me to order the pizzas that were already out. Origionally, I wanted the Big Sur but said it'd take "like 25 minutes" way to be a great salesperson.. geeze say it nicer! She said the only pizza available are the vegetarian ones. I ordered the combo until I was waiting in line to pay and saw her pull out a pizza with some meat on it and it was the daily special for today (Saturday): Piggy Figgy. It's basically bacon, figs, and feta cheese. $6 for a pizza+tshirt. Too bad the only tshirt available was the large size. The pizza was good... if you like thin crust pizzas that are super flimsy. You have to eat it with the plate attached to the pizza as a support system because when I picked it up, all the topping slid right off. One slice was not filling at all so I suggest maybe purchasing a full size and splitting it with your friends.. it's about the same price if there's like 3-4 of you.

They just expanded!! So happy because before it was too small for their number of clientele. I love Pizza My Heart!! I always get the Maui pizza. If I get the salad i usually get Eat Your Greens, comes with delicious pesto ranch... I always wonder if they have it separate.

We ordered a Big Sur pizza and salad for delivery to our hotel room while visiting Santa Cruz. So good. The pizza was a little greasy, but not too greasy - which basically means that it was the right kind of greasy to be tasty and satisfying. The toppings were delish (especially all that wonderful roasted garlic). We were very happy with our dinner and remained happy with the pizza through the two breakfasts it took to polish off the leftovers. Much to our surprise (given the salads we have had delivered to us in the past by other establishments) the salad was very fresh and tasty. They brought us a good number of napkins and plates. Would definitely recommend.

Pizza My Heart is a Santa Cruz institution that I have visited many times over the years (having grown up in the Santa Cruz area). We dropped in to the downtown location for a quick lunch, and my boys each had a slice of cheese. I had my obligatory finders fee taste. It was quite decent, service was quick (cafeteria style order at the counter). This location has been upgraded, and there are some fantastic Santa Cruz / Beach photos lining the walls. Solid 3 stars for Pizza My Heart.

Great pizza which you can buy by the slice. The pesto is my favorite. I've been going to Pizza My Heart since the 1980s when I was in High School and it's still one of my favorites. This pizza is so good you can eat the crust. Anyone who doesn't like it can go it Dominos or Little Cesar's because I like really pizza not cardboard.

Have enjoyed visiting this local pizza by the slice shop since I was a little girl. I always have to stop by here when I vacation in Santa Cruz for the usual slice of cheese or pepperoni pizza . I love how they have remodeled the restaurant so it's nearly three times larger with lots more searing available for customers. The service is always fast and friendly and the ambiance is always chill. I love the pizza and tshirt deal of $5 for a slice and commemorative shirt. Definitely recommend this pizzeria if you are in town looking for a quick bite to eat. Never disappointed here!

Solid, very tasty pizza. Service is friendly, ambiance and restaurant itself is fun and casual but very clean and well-kept (really appreciated in a town in which Grunge Homeless Hippie is the most favored fashion), and most importantly pizza selection is fresh and veggie-friendly with high quality ingredients. Also, family friendly but also a nice place post-hike or mid-road trip! Biggest con - I am 99.9% certain that the diet coke dispenser was filled with diet coke with Splenda. You know that nasty post-Splenda taste that lingers in your mouth for several hours? Yeah, not appreciated. I have a feeling someone was not quite paying attention when filling up the Coke machine and that was a price we had to pay

  • Melody K.

Not sure what the big deal is. Is it because you get a t-shirt with a slice? Do I need to be stoned? Not sure. I got the slice with the HUGE roasted garlic cloves. It was tasty but I thought that the crust resembled cardboard....not much flavor, thin and kind of dry. The girl at the register was nice but the person dishing up the pizza obviously had someplace else that she would rather be. Not impressed.

If you've been to a Pizza My Heart before, you know what to expect. The pizza here is great and out of the many pizza places to eat downtown this place offers some of the best you can get in the area. Slices are affordable, and pies can be too if you split the price with your friends. Service-wise the employees are friendly and are quick to serve. Each slice and pie is baked fresh in front of your eyes. The location was renovated in the past few years too, so now the space is really nice looking with plenty of space to sit down inside along with a few places to sit outside too.

I haven't stopped in this location in some time. In the heart of Santa Cruz. Came in recently to find the restaurant has remodeled and added more room. Staff was quick to greet me. I ordered a slice of Big Sur (pepperoni, sausage, onion, peppers) and a local beer. Pizza was cooked ok. Flavor was alright. A bit light to consume with the beer. Proceeded to get back in line to order the daily special. Staff has to put one in as they don't have any. I was fine with that. Patient I was. Instructed 10 minutes. I'm sure it was longer than 10 minutes. They have a rush. Pizza looks ok for most part. Looks most cooked. Until the last quarter of the piece. It was definitely black. I stopped eating as my beer was done. Picture taken. Good: friendly staff. Mostly on top of moving the line. Bad: pizza is under impressing, overpriced for having the cult following. If burnt was the taste this was the place. I didn't really want another slice. I'll just have to try elsewhere for pizza the next time through.

They have 5 big screens to watch sport games! I love their chicken & bacon and their Big Sur pizza! Super delicious! Their 8 piece buffalo wings are good too but it takes 15-20 minutes to make. I love how they have a stamp card system! Depending on how many slices of pizza you have ordered, you can get soda, salad or a slice of pizza for free! Free always taste better! For $6-$7 you can get a slice of pizza and a Santa Cruz souvenir t-shirt! They also have a very cool high-tech soda machine! Super nice staff here!

I was in downtown Santa Cruz with a little time to kill today, and I figured why not get some pizza? right? Popped in just prior to the lunch rush. They had a few slices of various pies, and the pizza dude was putting more fresh baked ones out every few minutes or so. I decided on a nice big slice of the Fort Point. Lots of chicken, sausage, artichoke hearts, roma tomatoes, pesto, and ricotta cheese. So damned yummy! I figured why not be a nice person and pay it forward by giving a T shirt to my friend from work. Besides, the incredible deal of $6 for any slice + a white T shirt is too good a bargain to pass up for anyone. It works out to be what, $1.50 for a white shirt and $2.50 for a colored one? A perfect 5 out of 5 stars from me. This is probably my favorite Pizza My Heart location. Great helpful friendly staff, hip Santa Cruz vibe, lots of art and photos on the walls. Besides, who can pass up their $6 slice and shirt deal? *bonus tip - get a refillable soda with your pizza just so you can use one of two available "million choice" soda dispensing machines. Tons of choices between carbonated drinks, flavored waters, caffeine free, etc. You can play mad scientist and make your own concoction!

First time eating at the expanded venue. Nice. Flavor-wise, the pizza's still really good. Service is spotty. Slices were lukewarm. Pesto slice was greasy, veggie slice a less-than-hot mess. Too cheesy. Kids running amok.

  • Crystal R.

Stood in line, my gf and I ordered a slice of pepperoni and she ordered the big Sur. My opinion, the pizza is nothing spectacular. It's pizza, taste like other pizza places. Girls were nice at the front. We ate our pizza in the dining area, tables were dirty with people's trash. I had to wipe down my own booth & table. Cherry dr. Pepper was flat. Some carbonation, but not really. Tasted like a bottled soda that was opened the night before. I'm not saying I ordered a bottle beverage, simply explaining the taste. I got my beverage from the fountain. Overall, it was alright.

The pizza is delicious but the customer service is bad. I really want to keep ordering from this place but I've finally called it quits. Despite the good pizza I've had endless problems ordering from this place. Seems like they can't get their delivery and online ordering system straight. Everytime I order online (I order knowing they are going to take a long time) and receive my pizza double to more than the expected wait time...I get it good pizza, long wait time...but double to triple the quote time? I finally gave Pizza My Heart a go again and ordered online...what was I thinking? Not only did my order take almost 2.5 to 3 hours than the expected 45 minute quote, the first time I called the girl said my pizza was on the way...I called back 30 minutes later to locate my pizza which was no where to be found...they said my online order was lost and that they would make it then. Another hour later my pizza shows up....to be the wrong pizza. HAH! I ordered a vegetarian pizza and it had meat all over it. WAMP WAMP....never ordering from this place again. Please get your online ordering figured out.

Honestly, I have ordered from here plenty, it's really a hit miss when I order delivery and customize. Its either all toppings w/ no cheese, drowned in sauce or you get lucky cause they might actually take more pride in their pizza that night. I'll stick to the cheese and pesto slices if anything cause i don't want to gamble with my taste buds anymore. Being in customer service, I usually don't leave negative reviews, however, pizza is highly important in my life, the gym is not. I gambled tonight and I lost. PMH will still get my business, just not the one on Pacific.

I went to Pizza My Heart last week and it was awful I could not eat it cause tasted and chewed like cardboard. The place was loud and the service was slow and rude. It took 1-1/2 hours to get our pizza. So I went to South Beach Pizza the next time and the pizza was fresh, tasty, and properly cooked. After that I looked at Pizza My Heart's Yelp reviews and I never saw so many phony 5 and 4 star reviews for one company. One 5 star reviewer listed their first name as "Opinionated" and Yelp let it stand. They even claim the price is $5 but it was $6.

We made a mistake last night by choosing a closer pizza place; I already reviewed that. We redeemed our love for Pizza by ordering Pizza My Heart! All our friends said this is their favorite, and now we are amongst them. We ordered on line - easy peasy. Their website ordering is very user friendly. You can add options and make special requests. The site said 45 min. processing and it arrived at our hotel room right on the dot! The pizza quality was so Good! WE had the Big Sur and added cherry tomatoes... So yummy, the kids had pepperoni. The pepperoni is a little spicy, but very good.

Good thin NY style pizza. Sauce was good and they have different sauces and peppers for pizza too which I didn't see until later Clean and quick place to grab a slice of pizza Their big sur was good and I loved how it has garlic and their crust was seasoned too Their pepperoni slice was really salty but good. It's the little pepperonis.

Quirky pizza place. They proudly display their CANS of ingredients they use to make their overpriced, cheap pizza. We arrived at 12:30. All the tables not being used were dirty except for a few. I never did see anyone clean them other than the customers. The bathrooms were dirty and stunk like Piss. At this time they had only been open for 1 1/2 an hour! If you buy a slice of pizza you can ALSO PURCHASE a T shirt for $6.00 MORE. I wanted that to be clear as others have said they were free with purchase. If you're the kind of person that pays extra money for a "Gourmet Doughnut" because it has Captin Crunch on it, this is your place.

First time to try pizza my heart. I had heard about it but never got around to trying it out. So after a long, fun-filled day at the boardwalk someone from our group suggested pizza my heart for dinner. It was easy to find and we got parking quick. I got a slice of the combination and a Chinese chicken salad and my boyfriend got the special of the day the San Andreas and a combo slice as well. Both pizzas were delicious with the right amount of crunch I like! The salad was soooo good!! It filled me up that I couldn't even finish my slice and had to give it to the boyfriend. Overall we loved the food and I even got a t-shirt as a souvenir. Will definitely be back again soon!

Decent as I remembered. Each branch might have it's pros and cons. The decor at the one was fun and entertaining to look at, multicolored sharks and face surfboards hang from the ceiling. Pizza was good, a little bit greasier than I remembered. Slices were big. A few local beers on tap to chose from. Salads didn't look that impressive. The small two person booths were nice to split up the tables in a space saving way.

yuuuummmm! I had a chance to visit a friend in Santa Cruz and she took me here. I was there for five days. I came here at least three of those days. One night I came here after we went to the Red Room for a few drinks. I was drunk and nothing comfort me like Pizza My Heart! I like this place! so yummy and tasty! The crust is nice and crispy! I'm constantly thinking about this place ever since I got back to the OC. Pizza My Heart is definitely in my heart now! hahaha

This is my favorite location for Pizza My Heart. A trip to Santa Cruz is never complete until I get a slice of pizza here. The only thing I don't like is that this place is usually always packed. It is sometimes hard to get a table. But I love how they have all the extra spices and sauces you can add to your pizza besides the traditional parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes. I personally love the red habanero sauce. Spicy goodness!

I have to put my two cents on this place!!! Wow!! You know I don't know if its the nostalgia talking, but this place is amazing! I've been to this place when I was: hungry, drunk, full, passing by, free, with friends, on a stick, with Lucy Who.... (I can write a Dr Suess book) with family, and it always tasted good, ooohhh... the thin crust, Oh the Big Sur!!! Garlic Chunks arrrggghhhh.....!!!! Oh the Mexican workers cooking a yelling out profanities in spanish, and only my friends and I understanding!!

Pizza was tasty. We ate out front, but the guy in the white shirt who worked there and smoked out front was not. all i could taste was his cigarette each time i took a but out of my slice. he sat there made out with some chick, shared a cigarette for 5 mins and walked back in to work. yuk, hence minus the one star.

This place is great! A nice big thin slice pizza for 4 bux, what a deal! Customer service at this place was nice, and friendly and they were the only place to actually check ID when using a credit card (my credit also states to check ID).

Someone needs to explain to me what the huge attraction of this place is. Sure, the pizza isn't bad, and the location is pretty central... but I don't leave my house saying "Oooo, let's go to Pizza My Heart" let's get one thing straight here, Pizza My Heart is not the pizza of MY heart. Their pizza is ofter a little soggy, topping fall off while eating them, the pesto on the pesto pizza clashes SO much with the tomato sauce they use. Really the only thing unique about this place is the amount of condiments they give you to hide the fact that the pizza itself is so deficient. But, when you are out and hungry, it's not the worst place in the world, but not enough to justify the 4 stars it has here? seriously guys, if this is the best pizza you've ever had you are missing out on SO much in life. Also, what's the deal with the t-shirts? Is it cool to come to class and match with 5 other guys in the room...?

you can't go to SC and not try there pizza My daughter loved it so much I wasn't a big fan of it as it;s hard to chew The other negative point is the place is they don'tgive you a number or a sticker that you can give back when you get you order So it happend several time when the place is crowded that while waiting to get my order the waitress give me that look like you already got your order so whay are you waiting here. She even asked me in front of other customers were waiting 2 times if I was sure that I didn't get my order My 4 years old is with me and we made the order to eat there so were can I hide what I took?

I have a hard time believing people could write a bad review of this place. The Pizza is delicious. Granted it does get crowded and service slows down a bit when that happens but come on. Good pizza is worth the wait.

  • Cricket C.

The pre-made pizza is usually pretty good. Their combinations of toppings work great and the sauces they use are pretty good. Unless you show up when it's really busy your pre-made pizza may have a slightly "wet" crust. It's still good. The best thing to do is call ahead for a whole pizza and show up in the store to eat it. The crust will be perfect if it's fresh! Thin, crispy, flavorful!! Thin crust is only really good when it's extremely fresh so delivery is okay but 10 minutes for delivery is plenty of time for a "wet" pizza to form in your box.

My fam and I were looking for a pizza place. I guess we ended up looking in Pacific Ave and I said we should stop by here. So we bought whole pizzas, one veggie, and one meaty. I was happy with the veggie pizza it was really good. I think three slices made me full. The place was packed but the line went by pretty fast. We had to wait 20 min so we went to the bookstore across the street to kill some time. Right when we came back our pizzas were ready. Good place to eat late night when your with family and friends.

I heard about Pizza My Heart through some friends I met at UCSC, and decided to try it for a late lunch with my girlfriend on a weekend afternoon. The restaurant has a great northern california surf atmosphere complete with photos of Santa Cruz's surf legends and wall-mounted surf boards. Ordering pizza by the slice is a great option, and not only is the wait short no matter how busy, it is delicious too! Whether you prefer a classic cheese slice or the vegetarian option, you will be left satisfied with a full belly. My favorite slice is the pesto! Buying whole pizzas is painless too, watch the pros toss the dough in front of you while you wait. This is my go to pizza spot in Santa Cruz.

Pizza is the best comfort food. :) My faves here are the gourmet veggie one and the Prima (feta, olives and tomatoes). But my ole stand by is the Cheese! The best thing to do is just stop by for a slice. You can pick out a great Greek salad for the side and there are tons of herbs to sprinkle on your slice. Buying the whole pie is pricey and delivery takes a long time, so plan ahead. I would give them 5, but I've had some not so great slices here before. Still my fave pizza joint over all!

I went to high school with a kid that frequented Pizza My Heart, as he was in the area quite a bit, and he always raved about it. I mean RAVED about how great it was. When I got to Santa Cruz and ordered from Pizza My Heart, I was sorely, sorely disappointed. The good thing about Pizza My Heart is that they delivered to campus AND if you got your coupon from the back of the phone book, you could get a free T shirt. Cheesy, but you know how broke college kids are. Their sauce was awful and their delivery times were even worse. The only pizza place lower on the list when the "desperate times call for desperate measures" mindset begun around midterms and finals time was Dominoes. Good because . . . they deliver to campus, deliver late, have some good deals. Not so good because . . . the quality isn't very good. It's not horrible, but it's not great, either.

AWesome pizza. Really fun combinations of ingredients. Don't be afraid to try something new here, they are all delicious. The figgy piggy is a personal favorite!

Used to hit up the one in Capitola when we were young. Still the great big slices and tasty crust. We boxed up 8 different slices to go for the family and everyone was happy. Only problem is its hard to find this type of pizza at home so it will be missed... Please open one up in the islands.

$24 for a medium thin crust pizza is a rip-off. Overpriced and its not even that good.

Wandered into this place to have a slice or two and it was pretty good. Not great but not bad. Made me laugh when the kid in front of me was given a burned slice and told by some hipster employee that it should be ok still. Poor lil guy seemed pretty bummed out. My slices were ok though. Ill go there again for a late nite food binge

I love this place. Easy fast yummy pizza for a good price. My kids live the high tech fountain soda machine. We went there for dinner this evening and I tried something new. It is called the Figgy Piggy. It is a pizza with dates, bacon, feta cheese, and fresh sage. It was delicious! The staff there is always helpful and determined to get your order right. Only down side is I always eat so much when I am there....

When I come down to visit my folks for the weekend, I normally stop here with my brother to grab a slice or 2 of pizza. Mmmmmmm, greasy, cheesy, pepperoni pizza you can fold up and shove in your mouth. It's like crack. I want to stuff my face till I can stuff no more. Mmmmmm ...

Best Pizza in Town, bar none. *ALWAYS* get slices. whole pies are slow and undercooked. slices get reheated in the oven and come out nice and crispy and perfect. decent salads to go, too. a slice of big sur and a spinach salad is my favorite. the tomato-onion, pepperoni, hawaiian, are all good.

Pizza My Heart is going the way of all Santa Cruz: mediocre food, pissy service. I'm a Noo Yawkuh. I know from good 'za. PMH used to be my go-to place for a decent slice. I have noticed over the years the decline of Pizza My Heart: the lackluster seasonings; the diminished toppings; the uneven slicing, resulting in orphaned, small, soggy leftovers for which they still charge full price; the ever-shrinking salads. Today I came in with memories of good meals; I am leaving unsatisfied. I realize that the economy isn't great, that costs are on the increase, etc. but it wouldn't kill us, your customers, to kick in a few more cents to continue to receive the great product of yore. Don't you think we notice that you're skimping on ingredients and that your front-of-the-room workers are largely uncaring (likely underpaid) college kids?

I love pizza my heart and it's my most missed memory of when I lives in SC!!! There are many other places that sell pizza by the slice but this is by FAR the best one in SC!!! They have this pizza called secret garden which has practically every vegetable on it (and im a big meat lover) but it rocks!!!! You can only order a whole one though but ohhh soooo goood!!!

Visiting Santa Cruz and some locals sent me here. Didn't disappoint. Thin crust pizza the way it should be done. Edges slightly frayed and charred, crispy and chewy at the same time for the rest of the crust. Looking at their website, was surprised that there are other locations in the bay area. Will have to check out some of the other places. Glad to know tho that this location in Santa Cruz (their second original location) is so good.

I love Pizza My Heart. Especially when I am craving for a Mushroom pizza. Came in here to get a tshirt, the deal is you get a shirt and a pizza for 5 bucks. No bad and it was our dinner before heading back to watch the DARE performance.

It's just so good. I like a thin crust. I LOVE the salads! I like that the pesto includes a generous drizzle of marinara. I've never had any of the meaty ones, but I am sure they are good.

  • Mel M.

By my account the best Pizza My Heart. The pizza was very fresh (most PMH slices are fresh, but the annoying policy of reheating even fresh slices often chars an otherwise good thing), they had a huge seasonings rack(!), the garden salad was crisper than ever with additional bell pepper (never before seen at other locations for this intrepid reporter) and the staff was the rare combination of friendly AND competent. And, as usual for PMH, excellent selection at the soda fountain. The store had a good vibe, which I rarely sense when eating out at any level, fast to fine. The slice server looked right out of UCSC wearing Clark Kent glasses and a huge smile, and the cashier was wearing a wrap skirt and a hair wrap for her dreads(?), quick to participate in conversational humor. It's nice when a restaurant feels authentic in its neighborhood, even if it's only fast food. Totally awesome.

Pizza my Heart holds a special place in my wife and I's heart. Back then, when we were just dating, she was a broke college student going to UCSC and I would commute EVERY weekend from Fairfield to Santa Cruz after work just to spend time with her. We share many meals here while just hanging out downtown looking for a quick bite. Anyways, onto the food reviews. Their pizza is AWESOME. I am a fan of the thin crust, almost "crunchy" cracker-like crust consistency, and this place serves pizza that is exactly just that! Gotta love their peperoni, sausage, & mushroom pizza. My wife and I claim that they add crack in their dough cuz you're always craving another slice! For some odd reason, however, this place seems to be superior to their other bay area locations (Valley Fair Mall, Capitola, Emeryville, etc). To me, it just tastes better here.

    (4)
  • Darrin K.

I was feenin' for a slice and after reading all the reviews, I knew I had to come by. Parking around Pacific Ave. is a nightmare on the weekends. Area kind of reminded me of the bustle around Tijuana with everybody out partying on a busy Friday Night. Back to pizza...yeah, I had the Chicken & Bacon slice. Pre-cooked slices in the counter looked rather unimpressive, but when it came out of the oven, it was pure delight! Nice thin perfectly crunchy crust that I like, not all that dough. Definitely lives up to the hype and I can see why it's a local favorite.

This pizza is simply amazing. The pesto is perhaps the best pizza in the world. It's handmade in front of you, and there's usually a choice of about 4 different types at any given time. One person below complains of the crust being soft and thin--the very thing that makes the pizza so amazing. These things are as much topping as they are crust!

    (4)
  • Bob G.

The best thin crust pizza for miles. This review goes for both this Pizza My Heart and the one in Capitola. My favs are the artichoke, the mushroom, and the garlic clams. Slices are only $3-$4. They say you get a t-shirt and a slice for $5 at Capitola beach. Sometimes the lines are long and its a hassle but the pizza is so worth it. Avoid the bathrooms at the downtown PMH. If you buy one slice you'll wish you got more. So just get two slices and stuff that mug, alright?

Great options of pizza by the slice. They have a card you can use for free items too.

  • Anonymous A.

This place earned one star because they are consistent. The servers are snotty and they burn the bottom of the slices to go. ALWAYS. I have been here many times because frequently friends visiting from out of town always suggest it because it's the only place they've heard of, and EVERY TIME I am disappointed. Sorry Pizza My Heart, you may be popular, but you don't have anything going for you-- unless people like burned pizza bottoms.

something was different. did they change their recipe? if i did this review a few months ago i would gave it 4 or 5 stars...i usually like Pizza My Heart. for some reason went in and it was REALLY different than what I remember. but nonetheless still good pizza to eat.

We were in Santa Cruz staying at the Dream Inn and were hungry and were not interested in eating a bunch of funnel cakes & fried corn dogs at the Boardwalk.....Anyhow, kids were sacked out and we ordered delivery service at 9pm. Within 45 minutes our 2 pizza's were delivered with plates & napkins etc to our hotel room! This was easy as it gets. Try the Hawaiian it is perfect if pineapple and ham are your deal! The margarita/cheese is pretty damn tasty too! Sometimes pizza sucks when it's been delivered, but I have to say Pizza My Heart was the bomb as usual! Good stuff!

The decor is great in here surf boards old school photos and pizza I suggest grabbing a soda and a couple slices and sitting out on the patio and watching the people just walk by it's entertaining and kind of fun.... Parking sucks because its just meter parking there is a parking structure a couple blocks away.... If you haven't tried please do....

I'm not gonna say that Pizza My Heart is the best pizza ever, but I will say that when you're downtown and hungry and it's chilly outside, a big slice of pesto or cheese pizza with lots of parmesan sprinkled on top really does warm the heart. If you get the little meal deal with a side salad, it's actually not a bad price and you won't feel so bad about all the cheese clogging your arteries.

I love Pizza My Heart but I have to be honest. Back in 80s the portions were much larger. Lately almost every time I have ordered pizza from the downtown location it has been burnt. It is still one of the best pizzas I have ever tasted in America. After I moved away I would make sure to stop here when visiting. Now that I live here I love going to the Capitola location.

Pizza My Heart is one of my favorite places to eat in downtown Santa Cruz. It is there that I have had some of the best pizza ever. My favorites are the Classic (Fresh Basil, Garlic & Roma Tomatoes), the Hook (Tomatoes, Olives, Onions, Bells, Mushrooms, Artichoke & Parmesan), and the Pesto (Basil, Garlic, Parmesan & Walnuts). The pizza is a thin crusted pizza, which I prefer over thick crust. Not only do they have great pizza, but a great pizza and T-shirt combo for $5. I took seven teenaged girls to Pizza My Heart for lunch and it cost $43 dollars for all eight of us to eat lunch (one slice per person and a few sodas) and that included six souvenir T-shirts--a feat that would be very hard to accomplish elsewhere. As with many of the establishments in Santa Cruz, the restaurant and staff are unpretentious.

If you want to indulge in some pizza bliss, Pizza My Heart is the way to go in Santa Cruz. I highly recommend the Fort Point. But you really can't go wrong. A little on the greasy side, but it's pizza, ok? Not health food. The crust is thin and crispy with delicious pesto or tomato sauce (the Pesto slice has a mix of both- genius!), gooey cheese, and if you desire, amazing toppings. They heat it up to mouthwatering perfection. My only complaint is it's a little pricey for a slice, almost $5. Justify the cost with one of their awesome T-shirts.

This may be the best Pizza in California. I started going here in 1982 right after it opened while a freshman at UCSC. This place is legendary, and it kept all us starving students satisfied as we waited for the bus up to Campus. Thank you for delivering such awesome food for 30 years! I can't wait for my next trip up to Santa Cruz to relive the experience.

Jesus Christ I need something to do. Bored at work reviewing shit I haven't been to since I was 22. Well here it goes. Pizza My Heart is easily the best pizza by the slice I have had in my entire life. I don't know how I would have gotten through college with out it. So greasy it needs three napkins to mop and make it feel like it is something you can eat. But even with the grease it is SOOOOOOO good. Plus with the outside seating, wooden booths and '60's style surfing memorabilia, it's classic. Whenever I head to Santa Cruz, this is a must do.

Pizza My Heart is my favorite pizza place in Santa Cruz. Despite what other people say, this place has delicious pizza and salad. I think I love them because their crust is my favorite kind of crust- thin, crispy and absolutely delicious. Best thing about it, they're open late, they have pizza-salad combinations (seems counterintuitive, but it's tasty nonetheless) and their not too badly priced. Best pizza there-pesto cheese. Yum!!

I'm from Utah originally and when I moved here, I heard a lot of good things about this place. So, I was excited to try it. It was really, really greasy!!! And the pizza flops all over and toppings are hard to keep on top. However, it was still pretty good, the LONG line moved pretty quickly, and it was a fun atmosphere. I might go back sometime, but I'm looking for something more.

Hands down, this place rips all the other pizza places a new one. My boyfriend and I always come here at least once a weekend on the weekends that he is here, and we always get pepperoni but I NEVER get tired of it, as much as I eat pepperoni. Kinda expensive but worth the wait and the money. Little itty bitty pieces of pepperoni. That's right. They're bite size. Sauce is good too. I'm also a fan of the booths and the surf-y pics on the walls. Jeeee. (: Wanted to try the heart-shaped one for Valentine's but never got around to it.

I completely forgot how much I like their veggie slices. First, HUGE slices! 2nd, they're open late, which is a major life saver. Nothing is open late here, unless you want to get sauced, or have dessert. This is the closest thing to a late night meal other than Denny's. Thank you for being there when I needed you!

I love pizza. I love it. And this is a very good pizza place. The pesto pizza is, to me, a work of art. And come on, $5 gets you a t-shirt, a slice and a soda (I believe). How fresh is that? Everytime I go to Santa Cruz, I make sure to go to Pizza My Heart. And I recommend that you do the same. I put street parking, but there are a couple lots nearby.

I love pizza and this places has a great assortment of different types. Being a Vegetarian comes easy, especially in Santa Cruz, and this place does a great job in keeping from the meat. It's also a popular place for the kids, so watch out, crows will be the norm.

  • Wedge A.

Delightful pizza. Thin, salty, just the right amount of cheese and generous peperoni. I hate buying pizza by the slice because in New York they suck. They've been sitting out a while under the heat lamp...but my companion who used to work there as a delivery boy growing up recommended this place so I tried one slice. I ate it in the car and wanted to turn back and get a whole pie. It's so good I just wanted to eat that pie secretly in the privacy of my hotel room by myself. :)

This is one of the best pizza places on the west side. You'd think being a college town, we'd have more pizza places than we do, but we don't. We have a few local places like Pizza My Heart, and that's it. They have thin and thick, and they sell most of their pizza by the slice, walk in and get pizza in a hurry. No waiting.

    (4)
  • Chris T.

The crust wasn't cooked all the way. The pizza was soggy and falling apart. Should have ordered from wood stocks instead.

Amazing pizza, amazing value. My honey & I are pizza snobs... we always find the best place to have pizza. Pizza My Heart is definitely at the top of our list of places in California. We have to travel to SC pretty often, so we always make sure that we bring whoever we have with us to Pizza My Heart. Last time I was in town was on Veteran's Day, I had to make a trip to the California School For The Deaf in Fremont, so I hopped on the 880/17 when I was done at CSD so I could catch a bite on my way home. It takes a great slice of pizza to get me to drive in holiday bay area traffic. I had a friend with me on the trip, I could tell she was a little hesitant for just a slice of pizza... but she agreed! It was totally worth it!

The Service SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS. The Pizza ROCKS ROCKS ROCKS. As long as you know these two golden nuggets as you head into or phone the Pacific Avenue location - you are fine. They did save my life last Saturday as I helped my roommate move into her new West Cliff cottage, in the rain. My blood sugar dipped waaay low, I was getting anxious and frustrated and then the little man with the hot pie arrived and all was right with the world. again.

Super cool location with some pretty good 'za. Its fairly cheap, but the pizza is pretty delicious here too- pay less, get more! They have a lot of great gourmet-ish pies here that hit the spot and save you some pennies.

This place seems like somewhat of an institution in downtown Santa Cruz, at least it is for me. I used to love coming here during the year I went to UCSC. I used to grab some whenever I was in town, but recently I'd been hitting up the Saturn Cafe instead, so it'd probably been more than a year since I was here until this past weekend. Service was friendly and fast. The pizza doesn't seem quite as good as I remember it, but my guess is it's me that's changed and not the pizza. It's definitely good, but I'm not sure if I'm going to make as much of a point to come here when I'm in town as I used to do. As for the comparison to NYC pizza ... it ain't the same (but probably as close as you'll get in the Bay Area). But it's good enough to stand on its own. If I'm in SC and I want pizza or something quick/cheap/easy, I will still give my heart to Pizza My Heart.

  • Scott G.

I have had good thin-crust pizza, like the kind served at Pizza My Heart, but I am not a fan of the pizza here. The negatives outweigh the positives. The freshness of the pizza here is really hit or miss. Most often, the pizza will be very greasy. Sometimes they have pizza toppings that include chicken and bacon, with no tomato sauce. These varieties can be nice for a change. Overall, I would not recommend eating at any Pizza My Heart, if you have a choice of where to eat the night's pizza. But, if you are downtown at 11:30pm, it's the only choice. And, hey, I've had worse pizza than Pizza My Heart.

    (2)
  • Haz O.

I was going to give this place a 4, because of its good pizza, good service, and nice ambiance, but then I remembered something that maybe the other reviewers forgot: spices. They have a selection of spices that most other pizza places don't even consider are worth putting on a pizza. The amount of spices and variety mean that you can make your pizza taste so much more different, and to your liking, than any other place. I tossed about 6 different spices on my slice, and I was in heaven. This is the 5 star difference: variety and awesomeness.

  • Josh B.

After moving here from the east coast, we found we craved pizza. We saw a lot of people with Pizza My Heart shirts, and it seemed like it was pretty popular. I don't really know why-- the pizza is thick and doughy and just generally not very good. I mean, it's not BAD, and I've had worse (on the east coast, even). It's cheap, I guess, which kind of excuses the mass-produced taste and feel. East coast people looking for pizza in California are kind of out of luck in general, but you can do better than this. Good for satisfying quick, easily-sated hunger, but not for much more, sorry. And it's always crowded. Go figure.

  • Hamilton B.

All you Chicago-style, bread-loving fools don't deserve this slice. You NY meatheads can have one 'cause I dig the pie there, but don't even try to pretend this isn't the best you've ever had. Respect.

I love NY-style pizza and while this not exactly it, it's my favorite pizza by the slice in California. The good: *Thin-crust pizza by the slice. Nice variety of pre-cooked slices, ready to be reheated for a couple minutes and served up hot to hungry you. Rest assured, your pizza isn't 4 hours old, because this is a popular place. I like the basic cheese best. Why mess with a good thing? *A few different premade salads to choose from, with various dressings (on the side). I like the Greek, with the rasberry vinegarette dressing. *Pricing. It's inexpensive, there are "meal deals", and "frequent muncher" cards where you can get a free drink (after 3 slices), a free salad (after 3 more slices) and a free slice (an additional 3 slices). *Outdoor tables (limited number) so you can sit out and watch the Santa Cruz street scene. There are also inside booths. *Love, love, love the vintage surfboards and pictures. *Open late. The not-so-good: *It's often hard to get a seat at peak times, and the tables are sometimes pretty dirty because the staff is slammed with orders and there's no one out wandering about wiping booths. (Understandable, but still gross sometimes, with lots of grease etc.) They do however come wipe up if you ask, and they are really nice about it--no attitude. *Every once in a while you'll get a slice that is burned pretty badly on the bottom. *Their custom-made whole pizzas are pricey and better eaten onsite. I used to order delivery from them and it never was as good as a slice eaten at the restaurant. By the time it arrived, it was often a little soggy.

This place definitely has some highs and some lows. On the plus side, they're open late (good if you want to catch a midnight movie at the Del Mar), they deliver, their selection is pretty good, and they have some great salads (oh man, that ranch dressing is awesome!). It's a great place to go if you want a quick slice of pizza in downtown Santa Cruz. On the other hand, their pizza is thin and greasy, more so than a lot of other places I've been to, not to mention their prices for whole pizzas are pretty high despite the quality being fairly average. The staff sometimes seems a bit rude and quick to get you in and out, which can be a put-off. The place itself is also fairly scuzzy. They don't really clean off the tables that often, so there's often a lot of leftover grease and bits of other people's food. Well, I guess the pizza fits the image of the pizzeria.

The pesto use to be crazy good now it way too oily. I order a meatball, onion and pesto slice and I get enough oil to lube up Ron Jeremy! I just feel that it gone down hill in the last few years. Can we say complacent! Portions and prices are still right though

Pizza was ok. Not as good as some of the other Pizza My Heart locations. The crust was a bit funky tasting. By the way, the staff has to lay off the bong.

I'm so bummed that I have to remove one star because you're still my favorite pizza! However, my last pizza wasn't that great. I don't know what went wrong, but it was just kinda so so. Maybe it was the olives; I don't usually order olives. Anyway, the olives were flavorless and made the whole pie kind of soggy. =( Maybe I was blinded by my love for you before. Okay so you're not perfect, but you're still the best pie in town!

this pizza my heart is so, so much better than the one in emeryville. or maybe i just think that, because it's the first one i ever ate it. i think it's the sauce. the sauce at the santa cruz location is like crack. or maybe there's just more of it. i do like sauce. sauce sauce sauce. ooooorrrrr, maybe it was that i'd come off a serious beach day & was ravenous, so anything would have tasted like a delicacy.

  • Dan Y.

Excellent pizza, but doesn't quite match the hype. It's your basic college town pizza joint, nothing spectacular. Had a veggie, a pepperoni and one with shrooms only. All good, with fresh toppings and the perfect balance of sauce, cheese and thin crust. I'll be back one of these days.

Mmmmm...I LOVE Pizza My Heart! The pizza is sooooo yummy! I highly reccomend going and eating here! Last time I went I ordered Vegetarian with added artichokes and chicken! TO DIE FOR. Definitely one of the best pizzas I've ever had. The only set back for me was the fact that pizza is laying out and the only thing they do is warm it back up for you as you order..that's why I'd reccomend ordering something fresh..Other than that they have some really great toppings and the decor of the place is very "Santa Cruz" Feeling....Very cool with old school pics of Santa Cruz and its local surfers. Also a big plus is that they offer a bargain of a t-shirt and slice for ONLY $5! No trip to SC will ever be complete without first stopping by Pizza My Heart!!!!

The food was okay. The pizza was oily, but not as good as Blondie's. It was one of the places still open after the 311 concert, and I needed to eat off my buzz before driving back to the SV. There wasn't much seating, so us three girls ended up on the stools at the end of the restaurant. I think it made me breakout because I woke up the next day with three huge zits on my neck...and I hardly get zits like that.

GREAT PIZZA! I'm from the East Coast and gotta be honest with ya. It is not an easy task to find a real authentic NY Style pizzeria out here in California!!! LOL The Pizza is thin crust, has that slightly sweet sauce,... and is just so Yummy!!! :)) Try the Pesto pizza, its a good bet! My only gripe about this place is the way they have their ordering system set-up. "Stand here, no I mean stand there"!!! and God help you if you can't figure it out on your own. (no signs) Go early cause the place gets packed and you'll be lucky to find a bench!!!

Pizza can be soggy and limp... But, When you are waiting for a midnight matinee its the only place you can go to without being out of line. Try there chicken pizza with bacon and cream sauce...MONEY!

4 stars is for flavor. 3.5 for everything else. Love the pizza here. I usually get the Prima. I've tried the Pleasure Point (good, except I wasn't feeling the Honey Roasted Chicken, too sweet, I'll ask if I can sub it for regular next time), the Maui Wowie (can't go wrong there), and the Combo (I think that's it). I definitely want to eventually experience all of the pizzas they have to offer. The crust is thin, the slices big (I like to fold it in half). As people have already mentioned, the best deal is the slice with the t-shirt for $5. I have two shirts already. The staff are friendly. Much better than the Emeryville location. The atmosphere is fun, even though the place is small and has limited seating. The surf decor makes a bit more sense here than it does in the Emeryville location. I like that the delivery is free, but it sure takes a while for the pizza to get here. There were two times I was starving and too lazy to cook, so I ordered a pizza from them. One of the times it took an hour for it to come and the other was like an hour and a half. The wait sucked. But as they say, hunger is the best spice. And I sure was hungry.

Not the best pizza... but when you want a quick slice it'll do. Options for "fast food" are kind of limited downtown so, not much to say other than that, really.

The pizza was really good, but there was a gross employee (hence the bad review). He sneezed, touched his nose, handled money, AND he touched the pizza slices with his germ infested hands. Yeah, homeboy needs to wash his hands and there should be specific jobs for each individual.

The 2nd location to open and the first one I'd ever been to. Good place for a quick meal for not too much money.

the fact that this terrible place has souvenir t-shirts (that people buy and wear) is a complete mystery to me. their pizza is bland, weirdly/overly cheesy and a waste of calories. nope.

Gross. If you like soggy under cooked over priced pizza, then, you might like Pizza my ass-I mean heart. You're better off getting a frozen pizza from the supermarket, I wish i had.

I am a fan of Pizza my Heart. There is usually a rivalry between this one and Woodstock pizza. Even though Woodstock is closer to my place, I rather trek down here and get something. The service is faster and they have slices of pizza ready to go. I found out about this place through my advisor, he ordered us pizza for our presentations and well we bought the chicken and garlic and the supreme pizza. I usually take my friends here if they are on a budget and it is thin crust pizza. Prices are good and usually crowded, but that is a good thing right. I give it s 4 stars however because there is not much seating, but I guess you can eat the pizza and explore downtown.

Pretty tasty pizza, good prices, open late for when you need 'em most. For $5 you can get a slice and a logo shirt.

Pretty decent pizza for the West Coast, though I found prices in California to be a tier higher than in New York. The pizza is usually higher quality, too, but sometimes I just want a dollar slice. Pizza My Heart was packed when I went, and the young lady behind the counter looked pretty harassed. So I did the gentlemanly thing and just ordered four slices of whatever she had right in front of her, please thank you, and my pleases and thank yous and attempt to make her life easier got me my entire order for free. I guess everyone else was being rude to her. So bingo: four stars (high for me, especially for pizza, which was also, like I said, pretty damn good). Karma apparently does mean something, at least in California. This never would have happened in New York! Except for the rudeness. I wouldn't go expecting something similar to happen, and this was five years ago as I write it now, but it apparently pays to be polite. Incidentally, this place wants me to make a bunch of own stupid "pizza" puns but I choose to spare you from more than just a pizza my mind. Oh, yeah!

Hey folks this is the place for fantastic pizza downtown Santa Cruz on hippy trippy Pacific Ave, Great thin crust Pizza! Love the Pesto! Never let me down, been here 10 or 12 times. Consistently good!

Pizza is highly acceptable for this area. It's great that it's open late too.

This is the best pizza in Santa Cruz! There is something magical about their mushroom pizza (not those kind of mushrooms). Mushroom pizza is normally not my favorite but there are days when I will walk 2 miles out of my way for a slice. The slices are big and fold-able. I also really like their Greek salad and the salad and slice deals. Their delivery pizza is expensive, but worth it when you want a special treat. If you eat in the store you can plan on it not taking too long to get your pizza- they work through the line very quickly.

I LOVE Pizza My Heart! Their sauce is not extremely great but all around I love it an my friend had been searching for it forever and we finally found it.

The pizza is good - the maui wowie has plenty of ham and pineapple. Great place for kids! Great value for your dollar. My husband loves their crust - it's on the thinner side. A santa cruz treasure.

After heading out from work for a couple of drinks only to mysteriously lose track of time on too many occasions, I have always been overjoyed to discover that Pizza My Heart was still serving up slices of their slighly greasy, yet totally awesome Pesto Pizza.

  • Andy P.

It's ok in the store, but I don't think it's that special when my lab gets a ton of them delivered. Unfortunately they never get the "Big Sur" (the whole with all the garlic) or the "D'Lex Chicken & Bacon"... which are my favorite slices. If you go there on a non-so-busy night like maybe Mondays, then it could creep to nearly four stars. If you get the warm-not-hot ones that get delivered to my lab then it's barely two stars. Let's say three. But don't wait in line for 20 min just for this pizza, keep walking.

The 6 of us got there at 6:30 pm and the place was buzzing with customers coming and going at a steady pace. Seating is limited to a row of booths against the wall opposite the service area, but since people tended to order and leave, order and leave, order and leave, our group could occupy two booths center stage. We ordered a 26-dollar, 18-inch pie, half Maverick, half Chicken & Bacon. As the blades of the ceiling fans passed the overhead lighting they created a flickering reflection onto our table, so seizure-prone people beware! The single-occupancy token-operated bathroom isn't exactly an escape unless you like the cavernous feel of dark brown ceramic tiles wrapped around the entire room including the ceiling. Within 15 minutes the friendly staff bellowed that our pizza was ready. Whoa! The crust was thinner than the pan it was served on. My husband slid me a piece of the Maverick onto a paper plate, leaving a reddish, grease-laden wedge on the pan. My neurons synapsed a flight response but my stomach was groaning to be filled. I lifted the slice and its triangular tip bowed. Quick, catch the toppings before they slide onto your lap! I aimed the slide down the hatch and took a big chomp, chewed and swallowed the slurry of pepperoni-infused grease, thin crunchy chewy crust, tangy tomato sauce, cheesy cheese, and spicy sausage. My stomach said, "Mmmmmore!" Not yet satisfied with one slice, I reached for a Chicken & Bacon and repeated the process. It was a perfect balance of white sauce, fresh mushrooms, chicken and a hint of bacon. I came to understand why the crust here is so thin. With less carbs, the toppings shine and it's easier to go back for more, and that I did. Thankfully my flash-forward of the priest eulogizing at my grave,"Bless her soul, she just ate one too many slices," is yet to happen.

I can't come to Santa Cruz without going here, at least once. I don't know exactly why but this one is twice as good as any of the others I've been to. It's 10 times better than the one in Palo Alto where the pizza is always undercooked and the crust is not even slightly browned. Maybe it's not really that good and it's just a sentimental attachment, being one of the first places I had pizza in California, but regardless I like it.

I've never been inside the restaurant, but we've ordered from them a couple of times. I thought it was pretty good; this was a few years ago, when the Linda Mar was called the Secret Garden, or something like that.

Best pizza in Santa Cruz. Alway good. Yes, it's greasy, that's how pizza is supposed to be. Great menu, Pesto and Roma are the best slices on the menu. Sometimes a long wait, but always worth it!

  • Sabrina A.

This place for me has pretty greasy, thin, un imaginative, bland pizza, but so many like it. The prices are relatively cheap. The staff is rather bland and uncaring as well. The place always seems a bit dirty to me and has limited seating inside and a few tables on its patio. It's alright but nothing to go out of the way for. I do like their salads though.

    (3)
  • Heidi P.

I wish I liked this place. It's just not my pizza though. Incredibly greasy oily pizza and the toppings flavor the whole pizza on the basis of marinating in the pools of grease covering the layer of cheese. But I know so many people who think this is the best in the Santa Cruz area... Maybe it was the pesto, maybe it was something else, but I never liked this pizza. Even the cheese is more grease than crust.

We ordered two pizzas for delivery. You can order on-line which is groovy. It took a lot longer to arrive than estimated but the pizza was great. I am very picky about tomatoes. They have excellent tomatoes. The pizza was delicious. I ordered a side Greek salad. That was pretty good too. The pizza comes with cheese and chili flakes to sprinkle on top. I thought that was a nice addition. The delivery person was friendly and our order was perfect. The crust is yummy too.

I'm not really a big pizza fan but this pizza was amazing. This beats any pizza I've had on the west coast. I'm from back east and this brings back memories. The crust is thin and crunchy and it has just the right amount of sauce and toppings! Great Pizza!

I'm still reeling from the first time I ordered for delivery from Pizza My Heart, they didn't mention the price on the phone and me being the naive east coaster that I am didn't understand that the west coast doesn't view pizza the way we do- CHEAP! I paid nearly forty dollars for a large pizza. Given, it was pretty good- but back at home I could've gotten the exact same pie for less than half that. Open late night which is good for slices, but it seriously blows my mind what folks will pay for pizza. Pizza!

    (3)
  • Brian B.

The Pizza is good. The value is not. It is open late so that is an additional plus. I've stopped by to eat with friends but not the first place I want to go when I'm downtown. There is a nice relaxed ambiance about the place that just makes it conducive to just "chilling" with friends. The place is small so don't bring to many.

    (3)
  • Becca R.

Hands down the best pizza this side of the Mississippi or outside of NYC! The slices are always fresh, always tasty and usually have all the combinations you could ever want. If you don't want a slice, a fresh pizza pie of just cheese would be the way to go! MMMMM...makes my mouth water just thinking about it. The line is usually out the door, but it is totally worth the wait. Don't want to bother with waiting...call in your order to go! It is for sure the best pizza in Santa Cruz county!

  • Carl S.

I love Pizza my Heart... Great food and open late (midnight) so definitely qualifies for late night dining. It's conveniently located downtown so if you're on a pub crawl down pacific or out at a club, you can run over for a slice or two and be back to the party in short order.

can you even call this pizza? i've tried all their slices - and they all suck. honestly, i would rather have domino's or little ceasars - this is NOT good pizza. i'll give it a two because their salads are decent. there is never enough seating, but the service is reasonably quick. unfortunately, their principle product is not good, even for 2.50.

  • Michelle W.

let me rate pizza my heart on pac av for what it is, ok? it's certainly not the Best pizza i've ever had in my entire life (i've been to italy, after all), but this place is pretty good if you're craving some satisfying but inexpensive grub after a night of drinking at the red/red room/99/[insert santa cruz bar of choice]. mushroom pep is my fave. just make sure to de-grease the pie with a napkin prior to consumption. also, the thin crusts make you feel like you're not carboloading for a marathon.

Their pizza is average. I'm not a pizza person, so it takes a lot to please me. They don't have a large variety of pizzas as I had hoped. Their crust is crispy and it's a large slice for about $3. It was quick and a filling snack.

  • Khloe B.

This place gets one star deducted for changing their garlic bread!!!! they used to serve it on pizza crust and it was absolutely mouthwatering! they put plenty of fresh garlic and seasoning, and lots, lots, and lots of cheese! The next time we got it, they changed it and my life has never been the same [sad face]...

  • Anna G.

Big, floppy, greasy slices that are extremely tasty when you're in the mood for it. It's a great location too, but you pretty much only have the choice to get your stuff to go, since they have limited seating and it's often crowded. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, though - I've had many a good experience getting slices, sharing soda, and strolling along Pacific Avenue with friends.

    (4)
  • Ann M.

The pizza is really good, and it's not a bad place to get a quick bite in Santa Cruz. It can be really crowded especially on weekends and in the summer, but the line moves pretty quickly and you can get in, get pizza and be on your way. There is not a lot of seating for those crowded times, but the crispy crust and juicy sauce make up for the negatives.

Awesome pizza place. My favorite when I lived in Santa Cruz. Clam and garlic all the way!

    (5)
  • Ethan M.

Good place to get a "quick" slice of pizza downtown, assuming you're not in a rush to get through the long line. Pizza is a bit overpriced and is a bit above average - good crust and sauce, but nothing to write home about. They have salads, too, but they're definitely overpriced.
